Chapter 168 The Last Warning Evan Wouldn’t Take
“Sure! Evan may not technically be a Norwood, but he did contribute significantly to our rise. I’ll allow him to darken our doorstep for one last time,” James said with a broad wave of his hand.
“He’d never have the chance to set foot in our house if it were any ordinary day. Honestly, he doesn’t deserve to cross the gates if it weren’t for these… special circumstances,” Josephine added with a titter.
The triplets were the only ones who looked openly disgusted, convinced there was no need for any of
this.
After every major figure in Silverton had made their stance clear, some people were thrilled, others anxious, and still others reveling in the chaos. Every shade of human nature was on full display.
What none of them realized was that Evan had been the one to tell all those powerful people to stay out of it. He wanted to handle anything that involved Cain.
Otherwise, Iron Dragon, Ivana, Aria, Victor, and all those special ops leaders would have been more than enough to make Cain pay dearly.
“Whew.” Evan let out a long breath after ending the last call.
He left Nine Courts, planning to meet up with the Cortex Team and review the captured group. Alas, he ran straight into the three heiresses on his way there. Again.
“Evan, I knew you hadn’t left!”
They hurried toward him when they spotted him, their eyes lighting up. They were convinced Evan wasn’t stupid. He would definitely accept the truth now that he was staring death in the face. Sure enough, he had barely stepped out of the villa before they bumped into him.
The three of them approached with smug satisfaction.
“It looks like you’ve finally thought things through. Right now, Hazel is the only one who can save you, and she’s already arranged everything. All you have to do is admit you were wrong and give a transfusion to Zeke, and Hazel will save you.”
“That’s right. This chance won’t come again.”
Roxanne and Anya chimed in together.
Evan was already sick of hearing these lines.
“Don’t doubt us. We’re serious. Ordinary methods can’t save you anymore. No one will vouch for you. Only Hazel can,” they insisted when they noticed Evan’s impatient expression.
Hazel said nothing, wearing an expression of pure superiority. That made Evan frown slightly, surprised for a moment. However, he still rejected them. “No. I’ll handle my own problems.”

He walked around them and left. Hazel, Roxanne, and Anya didn’t stop him, but their faces darkened.
“Stubborn to the very end,” Hazel said coldly before the three heiresses returned to the villa. The way they saw it, Evan would finally know fear when Cain finally set foot in Silverton the next day.
Evan went to Ivana’s villa and headed straight to the basement, where the Cortex Team had imprisoned the group they captured. The harsh white lights glared down on them. Black hoods covered every head, making it clear they had been dragged here by force.
“Listen, I don’t care who you think you are. Let us go right now, or you’ll regret ever being born-”
Even blindfolded, they still dared to threaten their captors, leaning on their connection with Darius.
‘Whoosh…’
Evan ripped the hood off the nearest man, his expression emotionless. “Remember me?”
“You…”
After so long in darkness, the light stung their eyes. But once they adjusted, Evan’s face came sharply
into view.
“Ah!”
Several of them screamed on the spot, staring at Evan as if they had just seen a ghost. One man even bit his own arm viciously, trying to wake himself, only to realize this wasn’t a dream. It really was Evan standing in front of them.
Their minds nearly exploded.
They knew they were done for the second they laid their eyes on him. No, this was worse than that. They knew with absolute certainty that he was here because of Darius.
