Chapter 171 The Dinner That Was a Trap
“What?”
The Norwoods were caught off guard by how quickly Evan agreed. Wasn’t he supposed to hate them? Weren’t they practically enemies?
After he hung up, James suddenly laughed. “I know! Mr. Solomon is about to make a move on him, and no one in all of Silverton would stick their neck out to protect him. At a time like this, if we call him home for dinner, of course, he’d see us as his lifeline.”
Everyone instantly burst into laughter.
So that was it. He thought they were saving him.
Josephine let out a cold laugh. “Exactly. He grew up with us for over a decade. He must think we still care about old ties-think we won’t just stand by and watch him die under Mr. Solomon.”
Alice, Beverly, and Colette looked openly disgusted. ‘Shameless. Climbing the ladder the second someone offers him a hand. Getting that call when he’s cornered-he must think he hit the jackpot.’
When it came to inviting Evan back for one last meal, the triplets had disagreed with Darius and their parents. They saw no point
in doing it.
Why invite back someone with no blood ties- someone they considered as good as dead? What was the point?
They’d expected Evan to refuse out of pride.
They had assumed Evan would refuse out of pride, that he’d never return to the Norwoods, let alone sit down to dine with them. They never imagined he’d agree instantly.
To him, Darius-and the entire Norwood family-were already finished. He held the evidence. He just hadn’t played the final card yet.
And when Caius finally unleashed the storm he had been gathering, all of it would fall squarely on Darius and the Norwoods. They were still strutting around, blissfully unaware of the disaster heading straight for them.
But then Darius flashed a crooked smile.
Inviting Evan back wasn’t just a show. It was a trap.
triplets simply hadn’t realized how far Darius planned to take it.
“Go on.”
Ivana encouraged him. “To be honest, if it weren’t inappropriate, I’d want to go with you myself”
There was a hint of regret in her eyes-regret that she wouldn’t get to see the Norwoods’ faces when everything collapsed.
And beneath that, something sharper. Anticipation. Because the center of this whole storm was Evan.
He hadn’t relied on anyone to stand up for him. He alone meticulously orchestrated every move. She was especially astonished at how expertly he had wielded the Cortex Team.
Soon after, she had someone drive Evan to Eisenberg Castle. The Norwoods’ estate sprawled across vast grounds, lined with stylish villas and manicured gardens.
Evan was about to walk in when two guards stopped him at the gate. “State your business.”
“Please inform them Evan Norwood has arrived for dinner.”
The guards’ eyes instantly sharpened with surprise. Clearly, James had already notified them.
As Norwood guards, they knew exactly who he was
the cast-off “imposter heir.” One of them hurried inside to report

Inside, James smiled faintly. “He’s finally here.”
Darius stood in a tailored suit, polished and composed, every inch the perfect young heir-yet a glint of mischief flickered in his eyes. The triplets’ expressions, however, were cold and full of contempt.
James glanced at the three of them and chuckled. “Alice, are you thinking we’re being ridiculous?”
The three didn’t speak, which was as good as admitting it.
“You weren’t thinking it through,” James said, still smiling, “Darius just told me-bringing that bastard home isn’t just for dinner. He plans to lock him up afterward. When Mr. Solomon arrives tomorrow, we’ll hand him over directly. Better to eliminate any unexpected accidents.”
A sharp hush fell over the room as the triplets stared in shock.
“Mr. Solomon came to Silverton for one thing-to deal with that bastard. As hosts, why should we let Mr. Solomon dirty his own hands?”
His smile widened.
“If we deliver Evan ourselves, we may even earn a sliver of goodwill. And more importantly,” he added, “keeping Evan here means he can’t slip away. What if Hazel Solberg and her friends try something? No. Keeping him in our hands is the safest option.”
