Stefan played along, “Yes, yes, do give us a grandchild. Your grandfather and the whole family are waiting!”

Cynthia added, “Besides, it’s not like you actually want to divorce him, right? So, just take a step back and make the marriage real.”

Hazel stared at her parents in shock. She gasped. “Are you mad? You want me to have Evan’s babies?”

Stefan’s face fell. “We’re not mad. Everyone wants this! If you don’t take your shot, you’ll lose your golden window!”

Cynthia grumbled, “Yeah, my friends are already grandmothers. How am I supposed to hold my head up high if you refuse to give me grandbabies?”

Her parents were both pressuring her, and Hazel turned grim. “Come on, Mom. You know you can’t force something like this. It has to happen naturally. Evan and I…”

Stefan interrupted her before she could get far, “It is natural! As long as you’re still married, you need to do your duty as a wife! That’s what marriage means! Now drop that application and have sex with Evan! Don’t be so selfish! We’re not getting any younger, you know. Besides, all we’re asking from you is a grandchild!”

Cynthia thought, ‘I’m really sorry for pushing this, sweetheart, but we have no choice. The divorce won’t happen only if the marriage is consummated. Only then can we save Evan.‘

This was Stefan’s idea.

Hazel and Evan had to consummate the marriage to buy some time. He thought things would be different after that. Of course, it would be even better if Hazel could have Evan’s baby. The divorce would be off the table once the baby was on it.

That way, Evan didn’t need to leave the family. Plus, they did want a grandchild. So, it would be a win all around.

Hazel wanted to scream. She didn’t want this. She detested it with every fiber of her being. Alas, Gabriel must have his eyes on her family. That thought made her waver. Gabriel had enough power to go beyond physical observation.

He’d likely try to figure out the relationship between her and Evan, especially when they were in the pre- divorce grace period.

It wouldn’t cut it for Gabriel if he found out that they were only a couple on paper. Hazel was trapped between a rock and a hard place.

She didn’t want Evan to die, not when she was confused about her feelings for him. Not when he was Zeke’s blood bank. And not when he’d stayed with her for three years.

After some struggle, she agreed. “Fine, I’ll sleep with Evan.”
