Chapter 216 When Regret Comes Too Late

‘Unbelievable!’

“Who said I was trying for a babywith her? I didn’t even know about that beforehand. was tricked into going…” Evan explained helplessly.

“What? Tricked into going?” The two women froze

“Exactly. If I’d known in advance, do you think I would’ve shown up? What a mess…” Evan was genuinely annoyed. Not only had he been misunderstood, but he had also made a complete fool of himself.

“I knew it! I knew you would never ditch the two of us and go looking for that old hag!” Estelle glanced at Sylvie before adding, ” Honestly, if you picked this old hag here, fine-but Hazel? That old hag is absolutely out of the question!”

“Watch your mouth, Laurent. Don’t lump me together with her. That’s disgusting!” Sylvie snapped, instantly bristling.

The two women relaxed after hearing the explanation, but they still issued a warning.

“But Evan, if something like this happens again, call us. We’ll go with you.”

Evan was rendered at a loss for words. ‘Bring you two along? The place would blow up! Then again, in a few days, you all might

really end up meeting.’

After all, the divorce cooling-off period was almost over. Soon, he would officially divorce Hazel. And judging by what he knew about Sylvie and Estelle, they would absolutely insist on tagging along that day. When that happened, a face-to-face encounter

would be unavoidable.

Meanwhile, Hazel had finally managed to calm Zeke down.

However, before she could even breathe a sigh of relief, Roxanne and Anya came rushing over in a panic.

“Hazel! The internet’s full of rumors about us–and people are tearing us apart!”

“What?” Hazel looked stunned.

She turned her phone back on. The entire Silverton elite circle was flooded with news about her. Her contact list was filled with missed calls and unread messages.

Apparently, her phone had been ringing nonstop ever since she chased after Zeke. But at the time, Zeke had been furious with

her, and she hadn’t had the mental capacity to care about anything else.

To soothe him properly, she had even turned her phone off. Now that she turned it back on, everything had exploded.

Many of the Solberg family’s relatives and friends were demanding an explanation—how could she abandon Evan at the banquet?

“Hazel, this is really serious. Right now, the public sees you as the kind of woman who’d abandon her own husband for another man! And when you walked out like that, Evan was left completely humiliated.”

“Exactly! Evan will never apologize to us now. He must be furious, not to mention heartbroken. In five days, he might really go through with the divorce!”

As Roxanne and Anya explained how serious the situation was, guilt flickered across Anya’s face. After all, she had been the one who secretly called Zeke and set this whole chain of events in motion.

To put it bluntly, she was the real cause of everything. But there was no way she could admit that to Hazel now.

Hazel’s expression grew worse and worse. Only now did it really hit her.

The moment she saw Zeke storm out of the banquet in anger and heartbreak, her mind had gone completely blank. She hadn’t been thinking about anything else. All she wanted was to run after him.

That was the power of a first love.

In a moment like that, at an occasion like that, it had made her abandon everything just to crase after him. And because of that, she had left Evan standing alone in the middle of the banquet hall.

A sudden pang of guilt struck Hazel.

If it were only her own reputation that had taken a hit, it wouldn’t matter much. But now things had escalated to the point where

Evan would absolutely divorce her.

No man could endure such humiliation and still choose to stay with a woman like that.

And if they divorced, Evan would no longer have any ties to the Solberg family. Cain would definitely make a move against him.

The thought made Hazel’s scalp prickle.

If Cain really attacked Evan because of this, it would mean she had personally pushed Evan into the abyss. She would never forgive herself for the rest of her life.

The situation had become unbearably awkward, and deep inside, guilt toward Evan flooded her heart.

Hazel completely lost her composure. Panic was written all over her face.

“No… what should I do? What am I supposed to do now? I feel so guilty toward Evan. What am I supposed to do about him?”
