Chapter 235 An Idea

Roxanne was frustrated, and so was Hazel. They were stuck now. They couldn’t call the shots any longer. Instead, Evan could, and they knew he would drop it. He had no reason to, not when dropping it could only benefit him. The divorce would earn him

nothing.

Anyone with a sane mind knew what the smarter choice was.

Roxanne cursed, “Evan, you vile, scheming, opportunistic cur! You’ll never gain our love! You’re not worthy of it!”

Although Evan had done nothing at all, the heiresses’ overactive imaginations pushed thern to ‘figure out’ what Evan’s next move and the move after that. They thought he would drop the divorce and then use the deal to make them marry him.

Then, he’d survive Cain’s wrath and make the heiresses his women. He could have them under his thumb.

“That knave!’ Roxanne thought. ‘He’s actually getting his hands on us through chance and sheer luck!’

“We can’t waste any more time. First, we must stop Evan from dropping the application.”

The heiresses sent their men to the City Hall, but they didn’t find Evan. So, they expanded their search area, but Evan wasn’t there. They even asked the staff if he’d shown up, but the answer was no.

“Keep a very close eye on him. Don’t let your guard down.” Hazel couldn’t ease up. She had a feeling Evan would show up, so she had her men stay around the area.

Roxanne and Anya hated Evan’s guts. Roxanne even hoped Cain could kill Evan. That way, she wouldn’t have to face his threats. “No, I can’t just sit here and do nothing. I have to try and get out of this.”

Her happiness was at stake. So, she was not going to twiddle her thumbs and wait for a miracle. She spent the whole day coming up with ideas to refuse to marry Evan and make it look justifiable.

Anya hung her head low. She’d given up. “It’s useless, Roxanne. He has the contract. He has us under control.” Luckily, her marriage was only happening the following year, so she still had time.

“That doesn’t mean we should give up! Are you going to marry him just like this?” Roxanne wasn’t throwing in the towel.

“Think about it, Anya. Not only does he not have to repay us once he marries us, but we also have to do whatever he wants. We have to obey him! Do you want to live like that?”

Anya’s face fell. She hadn’t thought that far, but Roxanne made a good point. The debt Evan owed would be forgiven, and they would have to be subservient to him. It was an unimaginable fate for people who’d held their heads high their whole life.

“What can we do? We signed the deal ourselves.”

“My family’s life-saving drug,” Roxanne interrupted.

“Uh, what about it?” Anya was perplexed.

“He wants to give me back the drug. That’s how he completely repays my family. That’s our leverage.” Roxanne was getting excited. “If he wants my hand in marriage, he has to give the drug back first. Unfortunately for him, there’s no way he can do

that.”

Anya’s eyes shone. Evan owed her family nothing but a little reputation. He could repay them if he worked for it, but the Leightons saved his life. There was no way he could repay that.

The life-saving drug wasn’t just any over-the-counter stuff. It was high-grade, and not even Caleb would try to do anything

with it.

It was rare and couldn’t be bought through any normal means. Evan could never get one, even it he died trying

hard they tried.

Of course, they couldn’t. van hadn’t stopped by at all. He was at home, cultivating. There were four days left until the grace period was over. Yet, there was no sign of Evan at all.

Three days left, but Evan was still nowhere to be seen.

Two days left.

Evan finally left. A thunderous blast exploded in the Nine Courts’ airspace. A blanket of mist draped itself over the neighborhood, lending it an air of mystery.

He had finally recreated the life-saving drug, and he had done it one day earlier than scheduled.
