Chapter 234 Angry Roxanne
Evan wanted to refuse, but Sadie hung up tight after leaving a message.
Roxanne froze when Sadie brought up the marriage over dinner. She stared at her mother as if Sadie had grown three heads.” What? You told Evan about that marriage deal?”
Sadie answered, “Yeah. I thought you guys forgot about it, so I gave him a reminder.”
That piece of news hit Roxanne like a truck. Her mind went blank. She spent the afternoon praying for Evan to forget about the matter, but her mother decided to tell him instead. That was just great. She had just trapped her own daughter.
Roxanne lost control and roared at Sadie, “Why did you tell him about that deal? Do you have any idea what you’ve done?” She thought, ‘Mom is such a blabbermouth!’
Sadie was perplexed. “What did I do? All I did was just remind him about the marriage.”
Wendy mocked, “Yeah, you signed the deal yourself. Why are you mad?” She couldn’t believe the marriage deal Roxanne signe on impulse was now binding her. The hilarity made her laugh.
Wendy was laughing hard enough to shed tears. “You have an eye for men, Roxanne. To think you’re getting yourself hitched t a loser like Evan when Cain’s coming after him.
“You’ll be widowed right after marriage. Then again, that’s the dream for many women. I’d marry him right away if I were you
Roxanne knew that Wendy was mocking her, and she wanted to cry. Her mother just had to step in and tell Evan. Now he knew there was a contract. Wendy was right. Cain was a looming threat, and there were only four days left until the grace period was up.
The marriage deal was exactly what he needed to save his life. Roxanne went back to Nine Courts without even having dinner. She needed to talk to her friends.
“Wow, your mother dragged you down bad,” said Hazel after she heard the story. “Now that he knows you’re marrying him, he’s not going to get that divorce. Otherwise, that deal is off.”
Roxanne’s face darkened further. She wanted to scream. ‘How’d things get so bad?’ she thought. They should’ve been the ones holding all the cards, but this marriage deal had ruined it all!
The heiresses knew the deal made sure that Evan would not choose divorce. This was his best option. He could avoid Cain’s attack and marry two more women. He would have three wives. They thought he couldn’t wait to live the dream.
Even worse, he could use the deal to force them into submission, even if they refused to marry him.

Hazel added, “I think he’s not even coming until the grace period’s over. Maybe he’s already canceled the application behind our backs.”
Roxanne and Anya’s hearts sank. They knew Evan and knew that was something he would do. The couple needed to show up at the courthouse to go through the divorce process.
However, only one person was needed to drop the application, and it could be done unanimously.
Hazel was shivering. She thought Evan’s threats of divorce were just empty, a card used to scare her. She was a tool to think that she held all the cards when Evan was the real master here.
To the heiresses’ surprise, the tables had turned in just a single day. They had no leverage against Evan again. In fact, they were at a disadvantage. That deal threw a wrench in their plans.
‘What now? they thought in despair.
