The Solberg couple desperately hoped Evan would stay. That would make Evan look like he was still their adopted son, and they’d feel secure knowing that he was under their wings.

“It’s not about her.” Evan shook his head, interrupting. He was about to say something, but Evan saw the anticipation in the couple’s eyes and bit his tongue. “I’ll visit you lots.”

He tacitly agreed that he was their adopted son. Saying otherwise would be trampling over the Solberg couple’s kindness, and he’d make them sad.

Although news about his estrangement wouldn’t stay a secret for long, he still wanted to cheer them up as long as he could.

A while later, Evan took his leave. “I have to go. See you next time.”

“Oh, of course.” The couple didn’t insist on keeping Evan. They could feel how much he didn’t want to stay, so they sent him off. It was odd. They had so much they wanted to say, but they had no idea what to talk about. All they could do was see Evan off.

Then, Evan stopped at the entrance and turned back to give them a long hug. Stefan and Cynthia were stunned, but they said nothing and let Evan hug them. He pulled them into his tight embrace.

Not a word was spoken between them, yet it was as if everything that could be said had been said.

The hug lasted for minutes before Evan finally released them. The couple looked at him, dumbfounded. “Evan, what are you…”

Evan put on a relaxed smile. “I’ve wanted to thank you for the years of care.’

Then, he looked at the couple seriously. “Do take care of yourself and don’t overwork your body. That goes for you especially, Stefan. Your back’s giving out. Just delegate and let your subordinates manage the company wherever

you can.

“And Cynthia, you’ve always had bad sleep, and your head hurts all the time. It’s been there forever. You two have to take the energy drugs,” Evan insisted.

“Oh, of course,” said the couple without thinking. They were perplexed. Evan wasn’t acting like himself. It almost felt like he was saying goodbye.
