Chapter 292 When Truth Shatters Everything

Over time, those two identities had blurred together in their minds until they had unconsciously begun treating them as the same person. That was why they had celebrated Evan’s birthday on April 28.

What they had completely failed to realize, however, was one thing-loving someone that deeply meant Evan had also left an indelible mark on them.

That mark had even surpassed the one left by the man they claimed to love, Zeke. They just hadn’t realized it yet. And the moment they did would be the beginning of everything they thought they knew falling apart.

“Evan’s birthday was September 3? Not April 28? No… that can’t be…”

“That can’t be right…”

At that moment, none of them was willing to accept it. Their faces turned pale, and Anya looked as if she were about to cry.

It had come completely out of nowhere. At worst, it was something that existed entirely outside their understanding. Something they had long taken for granted had just been overturned, and the impact hit them like a tidal wave.

Words like earth-shattering or overwhelming still fell short of describing what they were feeling.

Seeing this, Roxanne bit her lip and shook her head. “I couldn’t believe it either when I first found out, but it’s the truth,” she explained. “All those birthdays we celebrated for Evan… we were actually celebrating

Zeke’s.

“For three whole years, it was always like that. Evan’s real birthday is September 3, and none of us even

knew.”

Hazel let out a long, shaky breath, as if she had just woken from a dream that had lasted a lifetime.

Anya’s back was already soaked with cold sweat. If not for sheer willpower holding her up, she would have collapsed on the spot.

“Hazel… if all those birthdays we celebrated over the past three years were actually Zeke’s, how much pain must Evan have been in?” she asked, turning to look at her.

Hazel didn’t answer. Her breathing only grew more ragged, like a fish stranded on dry land. The suffocating weight pressing down on her heart nearly made her black out.

If she put herself in his shoes-if someone had celebrated her birthday using someone else’s date, given her gifts meant for someone else-how furious and shattered would she feel?

And thinking about how Evan had suddenly left without a word, it no longer seemed strange at all.

“Hazel, all three of our plans have failed now. What do we do?” Roxanne asked. She had already known about this for three days-long enough to process it.

Hazel was in no state to think clearly, though. “I don’t know… Let’s talk about it when we get back.” The truth was that she didn’t want to discuss any of this right now.

“Hazel, why are you back so early today?” Zeke couldn’t help but ask in surprise when they returned to the villa at Nine Courts. He immediately noticed how awful all three of them looked. “Did something happen?”

“Zeke…” The moment Hazel saw him, the guilt she had been suppressing surged even stronger. Desperate for some kind of comfort, she told him everything without holding anything back.

“What? You’re saying all those birthdays you celebrated for Evan were actually for me?” Zeke froze for a second. ‘Seriously? Over something this insignificant?’
