At that moment, Wendy spoke up with a smug look on her face. “Still thinking about stealing the life- saving drug? Do you really think you could pull that off? If Grandpa didn’t have absolute confidence, why would he ever tell you something that important?”
The realization hit Roxanne instantly. ‘That’s right! How could I miss something so obvious?’
Given her grandfather’s caution, if he hadn’t already prepared everything in advance, he would never have revealed something as critical as the life-saving drug to her. Otherwise, he would have been practically inviting her to steal it.
She had been careless… It was no wonder he had said her colors had finally shown.
From the very beginning, her attempt to steal the life-saving drug had been part of her grandfather’s calculation. If he hadn’t been absolutely sure she wouldn’t be able to find it, he never would have brought it up in the first place.
Now, one question remained-where was the one place she could never find the life-saving drug?
“Wendy!”
Wendy was about to say more, but Thaddeus cut her off sharply. “Forget about the drug. You will never get it. I’ve hidden it somewhere completely secure. Even if you somehow found it, you still wouldn’t be able to touch it. And as for asking me to save this boy…” His gaze turned icy. “I’d rather watch him die.”
Each of Thaddeus’ words made Roxanne tremble, and the way he looked at Zeke was cold enough to send chills down anyone’s spine.
What no one noticed, however, was that Zeke’s gaze had turned vicious beyond measure. His entire body shook as his eyes moved across their faces one by one, as though carving each of them into his
memory.
“Grandpa… Grandpa, don’t go! Please, I’m begging you!” Seeing Thaddeus and the others turn to leave, Roxanne cried out in panic. She even reached her hand through the iron gate. But no matter what she said, not a single one of them looked back.
The Leightons had never liked Zeke to begin with. Now, their disgust had reached its peak.
From a certain perspective, Zeke had cut off their path to greater success. So how could they take out something as precious as the life-saving drug to save him?
“No!” Roxanne cried out unwillingly, her body finally giving way as she slowly collapsed.
Failing to obtain the life-saving drug had dealt too heavy a blow. It was the same as having their only path to survival severed.
Hazel silently got to her feet and, together with Anya, helped Roxanne away.

Hazel and the others knelt at the entrance of her parents’ home.
Since things hadn’t worked out with the Leightons, this was their only option left.
“Zeke, don’t worry. This time, I’ll definitely find out where the energy drug came from! If they won’t tell me, I’ll just kneel here until they do!”
At first, Hazel was resolute. She even saw her parents come out.
After all, she was still their daughter. Seeing her kneeling there pained them.
But the moment Stefan and Cynthia noticed Zeke kneeling behind her, their expressions changed.
Just like the Leightons, they had no fondness for Zeke. If anything, they despised him even more. So, without a word, they shook their heads and went back inside.
Time passed little by little. As her parents still refused to open the door, Hazel began to grow anxious.” Mom! Dad! Please open the door! If you tell me how to get the energy drug, I’ll do anything you say!”
But no matter how she called out, Stefan and Cynthia refused to respond.
At this point, they had hardened their resolve. They might compromise on other things-but never on the energy drug. No amount of kneeling would change that.
Thunder rumbled as rain began to pour. In an instant, all four of them were soaked through.
The cold wind cut through their bodies, but that physical pain was nothing compared with the anxiety tearing through their hearts. Rainwater and tears mixed together, impossible to tell apart. After kneeling for so long, their bodies were already nearing collapse.
Just a wall separated them from Stefan and Cynthia, yet the two refused to even glance at them again. They even drew the curtains shut, completely blocking them from view.
Their intention was simple-they wanted Hazel to give up on Zeke and return to a normal life.
Night fell, yet the rain showed no signs of stopping. If anything, it only grew heavier. Still, the four continued kneeling, motionless.
In truth, they had already reached their limit. They were on the verge of fainting, held upright only by sheer willpower, somehow still maintaining their kneeling posture.
