Chapter 306 A Quiet Sense of Dread
Chapter 306 A Quiet Sense of Dread
Ever since Evan stabilized the third stage of the Ninefold Arcane Arts, his perception of the world around him ha sharpened.
The feeling unsettled him.
Without hesitation, he warned everyone around him to stay alert and avoid going out unless absolutely necessar
He paid special attention to Stefan and Cynthia.
That day, he called them again to remind them.
“We know, we know…”
On the other end of the line, Stefan and Cynthia exchanged uneasy looks.
Stefan couldn’t help himself. “If you’re this worried about us, Evan, why don’t you come back and visit? Better yet, stay at our place for a while.”
Of course they knew Silverton wasn’t safe. And in their minds, it probably wouldn’t be safe again anytime soon.
But the danger they feared came from Cain-the man they believed wouldn’t let Evan go.
They had no idea that wasn’t the real threat at all.
“And Hazel hasn’t been doing well lately either,” Cynthia added with a sigh. “Everything’s a mess at home… Nothing but chaos.”
Evan paused. “Hazel’s not doing well?”
“Yeah…”
Stefan went on to explain what had happened a few days ago-how Hazel had kneeled outside their house in the pouring rain all night long until she fainted.
A faint sneer crossed Evan’s lips. “Still doing it for her precious Zeke. She never learns, does she?”
Then his tone shifted-colder, more serious.
“Mr. and Mrs. Solberg-for your sake, I’ll give you one piece of advice. Stay away from Zeke. He’s dangerous.”
That was all he said.
After reminding them once more to stay cautious, Evan hung up.
Hazel really hadn’t been well lately. But it wasn’t just physical. Her mind was
just physical. Her mind was beginning to fracture.
It wasn’t just the divorce from Evan-it was also Zeke. He had become increasingly unpredictable.
At first, they thought it was because he believed he was dying. His temper had grown volatile, sharp, and explosive.
They had prepared themselves to accept that version of him.
But then, without warning, Zeke changed again. He went back to his old self-gentle, refined, always smiling.

It made no sense.
Hazel was terrified. What if he was developing split personalities?
She had even tried to speak to him gently-telling him that if he needed to vent, he should just let it out. That none of them would blame him.
Zeke only smiled at her. “I’m not angry at all. Why would I need to vent?”
And he meant it. Ever since he found a way to recover, anger had become meaningless.
If anything, he felt lighter than ever.
With the special medicine as his safety net, he’d be fully healed in at most half a month.
So why would he be angry?
