Chapter 309 A Hundred Bleeds for Freedom
It was utterly shocking.
Hazel was stunned.
‘Hadn’t Evan only given blood seven or eight times? Where did a hundred come from?
She pinched herself hard. The sharp pain told her this wasn’t a hallucination. She hadn’t misheard.
Evan had given blood one hundred times?
Her legs gave out, and she collapsed onto the chair outside the transfusion room.
At that moment, she couldn’t tell what was real and what wasn’t.
“I didn’t hear that wrong, did I?”
“One hundred times? Not ten?”
Roxanne and Anya were no better off.
The truth slammed into them like a crushing blow, leaving them dazed-like hollow shells. Their minds simply couldn’t process it.
One hundred times.
An ordinary person would be in life-threatening danger after more than ten consecutive transfusions—and Evan had been forced to do it a hundred times? And in such a short span of time?
He’d barely had any chance to recover, yet he went through a full hundred transfusions?
It was impossible.
And the worst part-they had no memory of it at all.
They felt like they were going insane.
Each of them clutched her head, eyes wide, as if they might split open.
Before they could process it, voices drifted out from inside again.
“What? A hundred times? Ms. Solberg is way too cruel! That’s not treating someone like a human-that’s worse than livestock! No! No one treats animals like that!”
The younger nurse was already ranting.
Meanwhile, the nurse who had drawn Evan’s blood turned pale. “No… To be exact, it was ninety-nine times. The last one was voluntary. Mr. Norwood came to me himself to donate. I remember it clearly…”
Another blow.
The younger nurse stared in disbelief.
Outside, the three women froze in place.
Now it was ninety-nine?
“Why would Mr. Norwood donate voluntarily?” the younger nurse asked.

“Because of something Ms. Solberg said-she told him that if he could donate blood a hundred times, she’d give him his freedom.”
The moment those words landed, Hazel, Roxanne, and Anya felt their heartbeats slam against their ribs-fast, heavy, like pounding drums.
It felt like their hearts might burst out of their chests.
The world spun. Hazel’s vision darkened, her body swaying as she nearly lost consciousness.
She remembered. She had said that, but it had been in anger.
How could she ever have meant to give Evan his freedom? She hadn’t even believed he could make it to a hundred
To her, it had been nothing more than a cruel remark. A way to shut him up. A way to crush whatever hope he still held.
And yet, he had done it. All one hundred times. And the final time-he had gone by himself.
Hazel suddenly coughed, a mouthful of blood spilling from her lips.
Roxanne and Anya turned deathly pale, cold sweat soaking through their clothes as if they had fallen gravely ill.
They had stayed by Hazel’s side for so long that they could fully imagine it now.
Because of one angry remark, Evan had actually gone through with it-one hundred transfusions.
