Chapter 63 A Visit
Even their voices were trembling. Roxanne and Anya thought this was a dream. They were seeing the queen of finance for real. She was on par with the nation’s richest person, and even they had to ask her for investment pointers.
Ivana’s gaze settled on Hazel. “You. Raise your head.”
“What?” Hazel froze for a moment, but she carefully lifted her head.
The sight of Hazel’s face made Ivana’s face fall. “It’s you?”
“You’ve heard of me. Ms. Stanton?” Hazel was surprised.
But a sneer twisted Ivana’s lips. “Oh, yes, of course I have.” She’d looked into Evan’s past when she helped him out that day. Of course, she knew about Hazel and her circle.
But Hazel was struck with pure elation. Her heart nearly burst as her mind screamed, “The Queen of Finance knows me? My dreams have come true!‘
She nearly fainted, but Hazel held herself up and expressed her utmost respect and admiration for Ivana. “If it’s possible–if it wouldn’t trouble you–may I ask for a few pointers?”
“Hm, no pointers, but here’s a piece of advice. Keep your eyes peeled. Stop treating trash like it’s treasure.” The ladies were dumbfounded. That last sentence reminded them of Evan. He was no trash, but he was a replacement, and they did treat him like treasure during Zeke’s absence.
The ladies thought Ivana must be talking about Evan. ‘Ms. Stanton heard about that?‘ they thought.
Now they realized why Ivana had heard of them. Silverton’s upper crust knew about that scandal. Of course, that story would’ve reached someone like Ivana.
‘This is all Evan’s fault!‘ the ladies cursed Evan in their minds. ‘He embarrassed us!‘
Hazel forced a smile and quickly steered the conversation away. “I beg your pardon, Ms. Stanton, but we really have a favor to ask,”
They started talking about the doctor who saved the Iron Dragon. “You’re his daughter. You must know who the healer is!”
A hint of mockery crept into Ivana’s face, and she glanced at the second floor without thinking. Cryptically, she said, “I don’t think the healer wants to see any of you, though.”
“What? Why?” Anya asked. She thought the healer was worried they couldn’t afford their services.
“We know the rules, Ms. Stanton. We’ll pay the healer no matter how much they want!”
“Yes! He’d be our greatest benefactor–we’ll do anything he asks!”
The ladies really wanted to save Zeke. The promises were heavy.
Even so, Ivana only sneered. “I can hook you up with the healer, but let me make things clear. I’m just a messenger. The healer decides if you get an audience.”
“Thank you, Ms. Stanton!”
The ladies watched Ivana go to the second floor.

Anya was overjoyed. “Zeke is saved!”
Roxanne nodded. “Yeah. With her helping us out, no way the healer’s saying no.”
Doubt flitted across Hazel’s eyes. “Then why did she go upstairs?”
At that moment, the faint sound of conversation drifted down from above.
