Sorry Too Late (by J.J. Twelve) novel Chapter 77

Chapter 77 Three Slaps To Be Repaid

“What? Dad, is that Ms. Stanton?”

Anya’s eyes flew wide the moment she heard the name.

Graham and Anya never would have imagined that Ivana would take the initiative to call them herself.

Graham answered the phone, clearly nervous as he stammered, “M-Ms. Stanton, it’s quite late. Is there something I can help you with?”

“Relax,” Ivana said calmly. “I’m just calling to thank you.”

Graham froze when he heard her words.

“Thank me?”

“That’s right. The drakeblood root you provided worked very well. Thank you.”

Graham was instantly overwhelmed with joy upon hearing those words.

Anya, who had been standing nearby with her ear practically glued to the phone, was just as thrilled.

Ivana had called out of nowhere just to thank them?

They were completely floored.

“Oh, don’t mention it! It was the least I could do,” Graham said eagerly. “Ms. Stanton, you didn’t have to call just to thank me.”

He kept bowing as he spoke, gripping the phone. “If I ever come across herbs like that again, I’ll be sure to deliver them to you.”

At the restaurant, Ivana had put the call on speaker. She glanced at Evan with a meaningful smile, as if to say, ‘See? One simple thank-you, and they’re grateful for life.”

Evan pinched the bridge of his nose and said nothing.

That was the power of status.

Other people could spend a fortune trying to curry her favor just to get her to look at them. Then, all she had to do was say’ thank you,” and they’d be so moved they’d practically drop down to their knees and cry, convinced that it was money well spent.

Evan could easily picture Graham on the other end of the line, nodding and bowing.

Neither Graham nor Anya had the slightest idea that Evan had heard every word of their conversation. (

They were still basking in the joy of Ivana’s gratitude.

“Hahaha! Our family will rise to the top soon enough!” Graham burst out laughing the moment the call ended.

The gloom that had hung over them since news of Hugo attacking their business ventures had vanished in an instant.

Anya grinned from ear to ear. “Dad, if Ms. Stanton personally called to thank us, that means she values our family. That’s a very positive sign.”

“Positive? This is more than that!” Graham exclaimed. “It’s practically her acknowledging our relationship. We don’t have to live in fear of Hugo anymore!”

He threw his head back and roared with laughter, as if venting three years of pent-up resentment.

Then, he turned to Anya. “Anya, get ready. I’ll be hosting a dinner tomorrow and inviting Hugo over.”

“A banquet meant to humiliate him,” he added coldly.

His eyes glinted coldly as he snarled. “Things have changed. I’ll make Hugo understand exactly who rules Silverton at dinner tomorrow.”

“Got it!” Anya was fired up as well and was about to start making arrangements.

“Oh, invite Evan too,” Graham said as an afterthought

Anya frowned, confused. “Our feud with Hugo has nothing to do with Evan. Why invite him?”

“Have you forgotten why Hugo slapped me three times back then?” Graham said lightly, patting his left cheek twice with a smile.
