Sorry Too Late (by J.J. Twelve) novel Chapter 78

Chapter 78 The Moment Everything Collapsed

Anya hastily gave Evan a call once she finally put the pieces together. Only to find that she’d been blocked.

The realization made her furious However, she quickly swallowed her fury when she thought of tomorrow’s banquet

So, she used Graham’s phone to call Evan instead. “Hello, Evan. My father’s hosting a dinner tomorrow. Don’t forget to come.”

By then, Evan had already finished dinner and was back home. A frown appeared on his face the second he heard her voice, instinctively parting his lips to decline.

Before he could, Anya added quickly, “My father said that you must come tomorrow. The dinner can’t go on if you’re not there. So, you have to come.”

Evan was puzzled. What sort of dinner required him to show up?

After a brief hesitation, he agreed, assuming that there might really be something important going on. “Alright.”

Once Anya had gotten a promise out of him, she called Hazel and Roxanne as well, inviting them to the dinner. She didn’t explain what it was about.

That only made the two of them more confused. Anya had been frantic earlier, saying something terrible had happened at home. Yet, she was cheerfully inviting them to dinner barely hours later?

She was acting downright strange.

What they didn’t know was that Anya was inviting them to witness a disaster.

The Goldens believed they had latched onto Ivana and no longer needed to fear Hugo. They had no idea that Ivana didn’t even know who the Goldens were, much less acknowledge any connection to them.

They gave her the drakeblood root, and she thanked them. To her, she’d already repaid them. So, there was no debt between them.

“Oh, I really wish tomorrow would come faster.”

Anya couldn’t sleep as her mind whirred with the possibility of a bright future ahead of her.

Meanwhile, Hazel and Roxanne didn’t give it much thought.

Compared to tomorrow’s dinner, they were far more troubled by the banquet that had fallen apart earlier that night.

They had underestimated the influence of that miracle doctor. The entire banquet had pretty much crumbled in on itself because that person hadn’t shown up.

Caleb had even slapped Artemisia, his own daughter.

What baffled them most was the way Caleb had tried to drive them away the moment he saw them. He had behaved as though they were the ones at fault. They tried to figure out why he’d acted that way, but no dice.

In the end, they had no choice but to return to Nine Courts.

When they were at the entrance, they quickly spotted a car parked outside.

“Get out!” A furious shout rang out as two individuals were shoved out of the vehicle.

It was none other than Caleb and his daughter.

“Artemisia? What are you doing here?”

Hazel and Roxanne were stunned when they saw who it was.

Artemisia was about to speak when Caleb grabbed her and dragged her away, not giving her any chance to explain. It was as though Artemisia getting too close to them would bring nothing but trouble.

“Hazel…” Roxanne didn’t even know what to say.

“Let’s follow them,” Hazel said, already moving.

They watched as Caleb led Artemisia straight to the entrance of Villa No. 1 at Nine Courts. Then, he dropped to his knees with a dull thud.
