Chapter 85 Information Finding

The men’s faces fell. Grahams was infamous in this part of town. A dinner invitation? That guy always gave Hugo a wide berth.

Someone said, “Something’s wrong with that dinner.”

Hugo narrowed his eyes.

One of the men blurted, “I’ve heard some rumors, sir. The Goldens are getting chummy with the Queen of Finance lately. That could be why.”

Another backed up the story, “Yeah, same here. Ms. Stanton even called Graham just to thank him.”

“What?” The news stripped Hugo of his composure. Though he worked in the underworld, Ivana’s reputation still reached him. People like her were way beyond his league.

Yet Graham managed to get in touch, and Ivana even thanked him personally. That meant they were close. Still, rumors were rumors. That gave Hugo time to verify.

“Find out the whole story!” For the first time that night, unease crept into his chest. He shoved aside the women he’d been entertaining and strode out of the room.

Hugo had a decent information network, and he received confirmation within the hour.

His men told him, “Ms. Stanton did thank Graham, but that’s it. All she said was ‘thanks.’ Doesn’t mean she’s backing the Goldens. And she only did so because Graham gave her some expensive herb. She probably wouldn’t know who he was without it, and there’s been no contact ever since.”

Hugo released a long breath, then burst into laughter. “That idiot gave her a stupidly expensive herb and only got a thank-you in return? And he thinks she backs him up now?”

His laughter slowly twisted into rage. “He’s getting brazen. Thinks he doesn’t need to fear me anymore, just because he brushed shoulders with someone powerful? Well, he’s going to learn it the hard way tomorrow.”

One of his godsons grinned. “Why not give him another lesson? Three slaps ought to do it.”

Hugo snorted. “Far from enough, and you guys are slapping him repeatedly too. And if anyone hesitates, I’ll be the one slapping them.”

Now he was looking forward to the dinner. It was going to be rowdy.

The Goldens knew Hugo would try to show them who was boss, but they didn’t worry too much. Nothing he did would work on

r them, now that they had Ivana backing them up. That woman terrified even the Overlord.

The next day, Anya took Hazel and Roxanne to Joywood Resort, where the event would take place. Roxanne and Hazel still had no idea why the Goldens were holding this event.

With a smile, Anya told her friends about Ivana’s call. They were stunned. “Really? My God, your family’s about to skyrocket! Ivana doesn’t just thank anyone! If you keep that connection alive, there’s no telling how far the Goldens will rise.”

Even though it was a simple thank you, it was priceless coming from Ivana.

Anya nodded. “Yeah, so my dad’s going to use this chance to clean up some old grudges.”

“What do you mean?” Hazel and Roxanne were perplexed. They thought this was a celebration.

Anya explained, “Mr. Wells slapped my father three years ago and has been sniping at my family’s businesses for a long time. He has a lot to explain…”

Hazel and Roxanne gasped after Anya was done talking. They thought, ‘So this is the reason for the event? But it’s reasonable. The guy’s been going after them. Now that Ms. Stanton has their back, of course, it’s payback time.’
