She lifted her head, as if crossing the distance of time and life itself. A pair of eyes, cloudy yet bright, looked at her, full of warmth and a gentle smile.
“Granny!” At once, Emma burst into tears.
She fastened the necklace around her neck. Leaning down, she pressed a gentle kiss to Remy’s soft, plump forehead. “Thank you, my little treasure.”
Remy, still half–asleep, seemed to sense something. His puckered his tiny lips, and the corners lifted slightly into a sweet smile.
Emma carefully tucked the blanket around him, then quietly got up and left the room.
Upon stepping out, she saw Silas sitting alone on the sofa in the living area, still wearing yesterday’s clothes.
He hadn’t slept all night. At the sound of the door opening, he almost immediately looked up. His usually cold, deep–blue eyes softened the moment they met hers.
“Emma…” Silas stood, his voice hoarse from sleeplessness. “You’re awake. Remy did not keep you up, did. he?” he asked.
“No, Remy was very well–behaved.” Emma walked over to him, her gaze falling on his slightly wrinkled clothes. “Did you not sleep at all last night?“.
Silas nodded. “Something urgent came up. I just finished dealing with it.”
He then asked, “Are you hungry? Why don’t I make breakfast?”
“I’m not hungry yet.” Emma reached up, cupping his face in her hands. “You didn’t sleep at all last night, and you look exhausted. Why don’t we head back to your room? I’ll help you shower and change.”
Crescent Vine therians could go days without sleep, but they’d feel exhausted as well.
“I’ll have Calum and the others take care of Remy during the day, so you can rest properly,” she offered.
“I’m not tired.” Silas shook his head, and together they walked back to his room.
As the door closed behind them, Silas took off his glasses and suddenly lowered his head, pressing his lips to Emma’s.
“I’m sorry, Emma,” he murmured. “About last night with Remy… I made you upset.”
Emma looked at him and pinched his cheek lightly. “So, you didn’t sleep all night because you thought I was angry, not because you were really working?”
She wasn’t naive. If Silas had been busy with work, he’d surely have stayed in his room instead of wandering into the lounge. After all, much of his work was confidential, not something he could let Lucien or Edric see.

Chapter 551 We’re Family
“Not entirely because of that,” Silas said, unable to resist kissing her again. “I had to work the first half of the night. But I couldn’t fall asleep after that, so I went to the lounge. I stayed there until morning.”
“Why couldn’t you sleep?” Emma asked softly. “Don’t you get tired if you don’t sleep?”
“I was a little tired,” Silas admitted. His eyes, dark and intense, looked at her soft, pink lips, brimming with
affection.
Suddenly, he tightened his arms and lifted her up effortlessly in a horizontal hold.
“Since I’m so exhausted, how about you take pity on me, Emma? Let’s go soak in the bath together.”
Anticipating she might refuse, Silas quickly added, “We’ll be returning to the Central Planet tomorrow. Once we’re back, I’ll be busy for a long time. I won’t be able to spend time with you.”
“Busy?” Emma frowned. “Lucien and Calum said it’s been quiet lately. You’re not tied up with anything, are you?”
Otherwise, the pair wouldn’t have had any time to stay by her side.
Silas carried Emma to the bathroom. It wasn’t until they were both half–reclined in the bathtub that he spoke again in a low voice. “Emma, I’m leaving the Command Center.”
Emma’s eyes widened in shock. “Why?”
He had finally secured the top position as the Legendary First Commander. Why was he leaving all of a
sudden?
Silas kissed the back of her hand and spoke softly. “Birds are born to long for the sky, and fish are meant to
roam the sea.
“Being the Legendary First Commander is great, and I’m able to do plenty of things. But now, it’s blocking my path. It’s holding me back from the things I want to achieve and the sights I want to see. That’s why I’ve decided to leave.”
He lifted his other hand, gently brushing Emma’s cheek. “I want to go somewhere that’ll take me to greater heights.”
Greater heights? Silas‘ ambitions were beyond what she had realized, which was surprising.
“I understand.” She cupped his face in her hands. “If there’s something you want to do, just go for it.”
Her forehead pressed against his, their noses almost touching as their breaths mingled.
“Just remember this–you are a therian with a mate, a cub, and a family. If you ever face something you can’t handle outside, you must tell me about it. I know there are things neither of us can solve alone, but Lucien and the others can help.
“We’re a family. Whatever we do, we face it together. Remember that, okay?”
