Kieran got the luckier end of it. He came down on top of the long conference table. His pale pink hair had fallen over half his face.
The entire hall froze for one long second.
Calum stared at Edric, who was planted squarely on the elder’s shoulders, and his brain went completely blank.
Silas pulled out his lightcore and took a photo.
Then he dropped it into the family group chat.
Silas wrote, “None of you are going to believe this, but I just watched actual people fall out of the sky. And somehow they were our people.”
He then added, “Emma, for once, I may have to choose justice over blood. Starting one second ago, I refuse to recognize the two idiots in this photo until I return home.”
One of the elders finally recovered enough to lift a trembling hand and point at Edric.
“Who are you? Get off him at once.”
Edric was in shock too.
It was only after that shout hit him that his mind started working again.
In the next moment, he sprang down from Winston’s shoulders.
The very first thing he did was look around for the two little criminals who had dragged him and Kieran over here.
When he turned, he saw Silas and Calum standing nearby.
The pair of cubs were sitting on top of Calum’s head. They were chewing on his hair.
Calum and Silas had not taken the direct hit, but both of them had been drenched anyway.
The instant Edric’s gaze landed on them, Silas spun around on the spot.
“I just remembered I have something urgent. I’m leaving.”
Calum reacted just as quickly. He barked at the room, “Why are you all still standing there? Handle this mess immediately”
Then he strode forward, caught Edric by the wrist, and announced, “These two intruders who appeared in the conference hall have unidentified origins. I’m taking them away now for interrogation.”
With that, he hauled Edric and Kieran out behind him.
This was beyond mortifying.
Calum dragged the two of them at such speed it was like he had rockets strapped to his feet, as though slowing down for even second would let those elders pin him to the wall with their reading glasses.
What he did not realize was that he still had two portable space-drop explosives sitting right on his head.

Just as Calum reached the exit of the conference hall, the older cub apparently decided Calum’s slick short hair was too prickly to chew. It spat out the mouthful in disgust, then sneezed hard.
That sneeze carried force.
And space.
Calum only felt the floor vanish beneath him.
The conference room full of elders and floodwater disappeared from sight in a blink.
Three seconds later, at Starlight Square in front of the Empire’s Royal Palace.
At that very moment, the Empire’s official television network was broadcasting live to the entire galaxy. The program topic was: “On the Absolute Security of the Empire and the Perfection of Its Spatial Defense System.”
A white-haired defense spokesman faced the camera, confidence practically shining off him. “We can assure everyone that even a single fly, without passing spatial verification, could never enter Central Planet… What the hell?”
His speech died instantly. His eyes bulged so wide they looked ready to drop into the microphone.
Right in front of him, the fountain pool in Starlight Square, the symbol of “absolute defense,” was suddenly struck by a black shadow falling straight out of nowhere.
With a loud boom, Calum, Edric, and Kieran slammed into the middle of the fountain in a thoroughly disgraceful heap.
The impact sent Kieran’s trademark pink hair flying through the spray like some giant drenched peony blooming inside the fountain.
And Calum?
The moment he hit, he instinctively grabbed the statue at the edge of the fountain to preserve the last scraps of his dignity. Unfortunately, he used too much strength, and with a sharp crack, he snapped off the scepter held by the founding father’s statue.
