The first heavy impact landed with surgical precision on the golden Beast statue-the very symbol of imperial glory-guarding th main entrance of the government building.
Then, a sound like a frantic machine gun followed as a barrage of “pips” and “pops” saturated the area.
Upstairs, Silas watched the monitors as the tornado delivered its feathery cargo. His eye twitched violently. One look at that wind and he knew it was Gaellard’s handiwork.
Are he and Andre back from Beast God Mountain already? That old fossil, the Beast God, sure had released them quickly. “Commander,” his assistant gasped, rushing into the room with a look of pure panic. “The building is under attack by an unidentified avian swarm. Security has cleared a private corridor. You need to evacuate immediately.”
“No rush,” Silas replied calmly.
He tapped on his lightcore and fired off a message to Gaellard. “Your wind blew the flock straight into Government Plaza. I’m giving you two minutes to get these birds back to their cliffs.”
Above the castle, Gaellard watched as Andre finished scouring the defense shield.
He was just about to look for a place to wash the filth off himself when Silas’ message pinged.
“That guy Silas is getting way too arrogant, bossing me around like this,” Gaellard huffed. “I sent them to the Government Plaza on purpose.”
As a user of wind-based abilities, the direction of the gale was entirely under his thumb. Andre glanced at him.
“Are you going to listen to him?”
Gaellard didn’t answer right away. Instead, he shot back a reply. “Give me one reason. Why should I listen to you?”
Silas received the reply almost instantly. He wasn’t surprised. “No reason. Except for the fact that I am Enia’s primary mate.”
Gaellard stared at the message and ground his teeth.
One minute later, a massive tornado swept through the Government Plaza, whisking the birds away into the distance.
Silas took his time closing his lightcore, looking quite satisfied.
Having dealt with the birds, Gaellard turned to Andre.
“Andre, we solved that together. I’m going to find a place to shower. You’re not allowed to go to the castle to see Emma alone before I get back.”
Andre glanced at Gaellard but said nothing.

The man was a human ice cube high functioning and utterly cold. Gaellard took his silence as agreement.

Based on what he knew of Andre the guy was fou proud to sneak off and take all the credit while Gaellard was busy scrubbing
With a final warning, Gaellard bolted to find a place to wash off the bird droppings.
Andre watched him leave, and in a flash of movement, he reappeared at tire castle gates.
Loyalty while courting a female? Andre thought. What a joke.
He might be cold, but he wasn’t an idiot.
Meanwhile, Gaellard found a massive lake and dove straight in.
It wasn’t that he couldn’t afford a castle; he just felt they were unnecessary.
After years of sleeping wherever he wanted on Beast God Mountain, he was used to the open air. Besides, once he had a huntress. he’d obviously live with her. Better to save all his money for her instead.
“Ms. Tibarn!” Gaellard chuckled to himself as he scrubbed, Emma’s face flashing in his mind. He wondered what human females liked.
He washed himself over ten times, moving to different spots in the lake until he was pristine. Stepping onto the shore, a warm breeze-summoned by his own power-whisked the water droplets from his skin.
He spent a long time rummaging through his spatial band, finally picking out an outfit he was satisfied with.
Then, he pulled out a mirror to check his face.
He knew he was handsome, but for Emma, he had to look exquisite. He didn’t necessarily need to outshine Silas or Jim, but he certainly wasn’t going to look worse than them.
But when his eyes hit the reflection, he froze.
The face in the mirror was still sharp and bold, but his skin had undergone a radical transformation. The rough texture from years of exposure to the elements was gone, replaced by a nearly translucent glow, like the finest white porcelain,
He reached up, touching his cheek. It felt as smooth as silk.
“Does that bird poop actually do this?”
If he’d known, he wouldn’t have tried so hard to dodge it earlier. An uncontrollable grin spread across his face.
“Look at this skin… this complexion…” Gaellard tilted his head, admiring himself from every angle.
With skin this good, his dark blue outfit suddenly felt wrong.
He immediately reached back into his band and pulled out a suit of dark crimson.
It was a difficult color to pull off, but on Gaellard, it emphasized the snowy white of his skin and the rebellious fire in his eyes to perfection.
