After the call ended, Kael dropped the phone onto the bed and leaned back slightly, one hand planted behind him against the mattress as his gaze settled on the ceiling. Tomorrow, a new Chapter of their lives would begin.
There was a reason he wanted to move, and it wasn’t just because the new house was larger, offering them better privacy, or because it would be spacious enough to bring his mother and Ezra in. Those were part of it, but there was another reason he’d accepted the Association’s offer. The location of the new home.
Unlike the other districts, the Tier Zero District was far more exclusive. Wealth alone wasn’t enough to secure a place there, anyone who wanted to establish themselves in that district needed wealth, power, and connections all at once.
Naturally, that meant the people gathered there represented the absolute elite of the safe zone.
If Kael wanted to accomplish his goal of gathering resources and connections, then there was hardly a better place to start looking.
There were bound to be countless valuable resources circulating throughout the district, especially treasures obtained from Rifts and the Tower. Hunters, guilds, merchants, and influential figures would naturally bring their most valuable acquisitions there, creating a market far different from anything available in the lower districts.
With the resources Kael currently possessed, there was even a chance he could trade some of them for things capable of helping his mother, Ezra, and even Lyra.
In that regard, moving to the Tier Zero District was a win for him in more ways than one.
Kael remained in that position for a while, his thoughts slowly settling as he considered everything that awaited him tomorrow. There was still a lot he needed to do, and wasting the night thinking about it wouldn’t accomplish anything.
Eventually, he decided it was time to rest.
As usual, Kael summoned his Void Echoes before going to bed. One after another, the clones appeared within the room before he sent them into the Tower to continue cultivating. With that taken care of, Kael finally lay down and closed his eyes.
The night passed quietly.
Soon, morning arrived.
Kael’s eyes opened when he heard sounds coming from outside his room. Judging from the noise, he already had a pretty good idea who it was. He got out of bed, opened his door, and walked toward the kitchen.
Sure enough, Lyra was there.
"Hey, good morning," she said when she noticed him.
"Good morning to you too," Kael replied, glancing at her for a moment before asking, "How was your night?"
"It was good."
Lyra’s mood seemed noticeably better than it had been yesterday. She still wasn’t completely back to normal, but at least the heaviness that had followed her throughout the previous day had faded somewhat.
"Come sit. Breakfast will be ready soon."
Kael nodded and remained at the table while Lyra finished cooking. It didn’t take long before she brought the food over and served both of them.
The moment they started eating, neither of them bothered trying to maintain any sort of elegance.
They simply devoured everything.
The speed at which the two of them ate made it obvious just how hungry they’d been. It wasn’t surprising either. The previous day had been stressful from beginning to end, and breakfast had been the only proper meal they’d had.
By the time night came, neither of them had been in the mood to think about food, especially after everything that had happened.
Now that they finally had something in front of them, their bodies seemed determined to make up for it.
Once the plates were cleared, Lyra looked up at Kael.
"So, we’re moving today, right?"
Kael nodded. "Yeah. We just need to pack everything, then we’re off."
Lyra nodded as well, and for a short while, the two simply remained seated at the table. Neither seemed particularly eager to rush into the task, but eventually Kael pushed his chair back and stood.
"I’ll clean these."
He gathered the plates and utensils they had used before carrying everything to the sink.
Lyra stood as well and headed toward her room to begin packing.
