Still You Still Me Still Falling novel Chapter 127

It was supposed to be a joyous welcome-home dinner for Sheila.

Instead, his mother relentlessly pressured her to go on a blind date. When Sheila refused, his mother burst into tears.

The atmosphere in the private room grew so suffocating that Sheila couldn't bear it, rushing out with red, tear-filled eyes.

Simon pulled her into a quiet corner of the hallway and pulled her into a hug. "My dear friend, my mom is going through menopause. Try to cut her some slack."

"I know..." Sheila choked out through a sob. "It's my fault for making her worry."

"It's the holidays, and look at the two of you..." Simon sighed helplessly. "Stop crying, okay? I feel bad for her, and I feel bad for you. Have a little mercy on me, alright?"

It took a lot of coaxing, but Sheila finally cracked a watery smile.

Simon patted her shoulder. "Oh, my god, you two... you and my mom are going to be the death of me."

"But what about Aunt Nadine...?"

"Don't worry, I'll go talk to her," Simon assured her. "Honestly, when she brings up a blind date, just humor her. Go on the date and then just say you weren't interested..."

Sheila shot him a glare.

He immediately raised his hands in surrender. "Alright, alright, I'll shut up. Go wash your face. I'll go back in and have a word with her."

Simon headed back to the dining room first.

Sheila stood by the window, staring blankly down at the street below.

"Pulling and hugging Simon Sinclair in public like that—does Cecil know?"

A freezing voice suddenly cut through the air behind her.

Sheila turned in disbelief and came face-to-face with Edmond.

"You really do know how to play the field, Sheila," Edmond said, his gaze entirely devoid of warmth. "You've even got the nerve to mess with Cecil Rhodes."

Sheila had explicitly told Edmond before that she viewed Cecil purely as family.

She had said it more than once.

But clearly, Edmond didn't believe a single word of it.

Of course not. There wasn't a shred of basic trust left between them.

In Edmond's twisted mind, she had likely dumped Simon to hook up with Cecil.

But he didn't even have the right to!

How could he... how could he have fallen for a woman like this?!

As she approached the private room, Sheila spotted Aunt Nadine's husband, Clarence Sinclair.

"Clarence."

Clarence pulled his gaze back from the distance, a warm smile spreading across his face. "Sheila, hurry back inside. Everyone is waiting for you."

Thanks to Simon's intervention, the whole blind date fiasco was temporarily put to rest.

After dinner, Simon drove her home. He couldn't resist asking, "Are you really completely done with dating? My mom's concerns aren't totally baseless, you know. You can't just give up on love entirely just because of Edmond Halley."

Sheila shook her head. "It's not because of him. It's just... I haven't met the right person."

Simon wasn't stupid.

Honestly, a man of Edmond's caliber was exceptional in every way.

After being with someone like him, how could any ordinary guy ever catch Sheila's eye?
