Perhaps knowing I was hiding behind the curtain, Mr. Palmer seemed uneasy. He pushed Mom’s hand away and said, “Alright, enough. Didn’t you say we needed to settle the accounts?”
But Mom persisted. She nudged Mr. Palmer into a nearby chair before slipping off his pants. Then, she gave him a seductive glance before lowering her head.
I could hear Mr. Palmer’s heavy breathing and the wet, intimate sounds that followed. Aware I was behind the curtain, Mr. Palmer kept glancing in my direction from time to time.
The fire in his eyes sent my heart racing. I knew I shouldn’t be watching, but I was utterly spellbound. My
eyes locked on the scene before me, completely unable to look away.
“Oh my, you’re so big today. I can barely fit my mouth around it,” Mom murmured flirtatiously before straddling Mr. Palmer’s hip.
Almost instantly, the cluttered storeroom filled with the sound of Mom’s gasps and moans, along with
Mr. Palmer’s restrained breathing.
Through the gap in the curtains, my eyes locked with Mr. Palmer’s.
I could feel my body growing weak. Yet, I couldn’t control my gaze at all as it kept drifting toward them.
It was Mom who raised me all on her own, and I never knew who my father was. I had never seen Mom like this before, and with Mr. Palmer, of all people.
After what felt like an eternity, Mom trembled once and went completely limp in Mr. Palmer’s arms.
“You still haven’t answered me–why did you ask me to settle the accounts today? Wasn’t Friday our usual day?” Mr. Palmer’s voice held a lazy, satisfied note after the release.
“Didn’t you see Ruby when you came?”
Even though the question was about the accounts, Mom kept bringing me up.
A bad feeling began to stir inside me.
“No, I didn’t. When I arrived, there was no one here.”
Mr. Palmer chose to conceal the truth, and I let out a quiet sigh of relief.
I didn’t know how to face Mom, nor did I have any idea what her explanation might drag me into. My mind felt blank–all I wanted was an answer.
Why did Mom put me here? She clearly knew Mr. Palmer was coming, so why did she light the pleasure
candle?
“I thought you might run into Ruby.” A flicker of disappointment passed through Mom’s eyes before she smiled softly and caressed Mr. Palmer’s face. “Of course, I missed you. That’s why I asked you to come
