"You could’ve broken your leg!"
The old man screamed in anger as he rushed towards Kaelion.
"But I didn’t."
Kaelion laughed and before anyone could say anything else, he ran towards a narrow gap between two stalls, narrow enough that it was impossible for him to move through it—
But that did not slow him down.
He just dashed forward and then he jumped again—
He should have hit the edge, his shoulder should have hit the wall, he should have fallen down—
But—
He passed through perfectly, without a single scratch.
Once he reached the other side, he looked at the old man through the same narrow gap and—
"See?"
He spoke before he dashed away.
Someone muttered under their breath.
"...Ridiculous."
Kaelion didn’t hear them, even if he did, he simply didn’t care. His curious eyes spotted something else, a tall stack of barrels near the side of the street.
Without thinking—
He ran toward them.
"Hey! Don’t—"
Someone shouted but...
Too late.
Kaelion climbed up the side of the barrels quickly, using small gaps between them to pull himself higher.
One of the barrels shifted.
Then another.
The entire stack tilted.
"It’s going to fall!"
People stepped back immediately.
Kaelion reached the top, he stood there, grinning as if he didn’t even sense the barrels beneath him were going to fall, taking him down with them.
The barrels tilted further, as if they were about to fall completely—
But just then—
One barrel slipped further back, into a position that somehow supported the rest, and it didn’t end there, it pushed a few more barrels, all moving into different positions that somehow supported the structure and—
The entire structure held, God knows how.
Kaelion blinked, seemingly surprised.
"...Huh.
That worked too."
"What in the hell is that child...?"
A man muttered, staring at him with a confused look on his face.
"...that’s not normal."
Another woman spoke in a low voice.
Meanwhile, leaning against a wooden post nearby—
Another boy watched it all play out.
He was Veyron Leander, Edda’s son.
Like his sister, he was ten as well, both of them were twins.
At first glance... there was nothing special about Veyron. His hair was an odd mix of brown and faint pink, slightly out of place, like he hadn’t bothered to fix it.
His golden eyes... didn’t shine like Kaelion’s.
They were half-lidded, dull, as if he would fall asleep this very moment. When he looked at something, it didn’t feel like he was paying attention at all. In fact, it felt like he was barely even there.
His face carried no strong emotion.
No excitement.
No curiosity.
Just... boredom.
He wore simple clothes, slightly wrinkled, a bit untidy, like he had put them on without thinking.
His posture was lazy. His shoulders were relaxed, his weight leaned slightly to one side, like standing straight itself was too much effort. One hand hung loosely, the other occasionally moved just enough to scratch his head or rub his eye.
Then—
He yawned.
"...he’s going to try something else."
He muttered with that yawn.
"What?"
A man standing near him frowned.
"He’s going to jump from there."
Veyron pointed without actually putting in the effort to look at the man.
The man turned and Kaelion, he, while standing at the top of the barrels, his golden eyes shone and the man’s expression changed—
"...Don’t tell me—"
The man’s expression changed, but it was too late.
Kaelion jumped.
"—he actually did it..."
The man blinked.
The worst part?
This time, the boy had jumped even farther.
Too far actually and there was nothing below him. No box that carried blankets, no support, nothing.
For a brief moment—
It looked like he would fall straight onto the stone ground.
Then—
Another cart pulled by a Reinfer Horse passed by and...
Kaelion fell right inside it, without any injuries at all.
"...when did you get there?"
The person pulling the cart asked with a confused look on his face.
"Just now!"
Kaelion sat up, laughing.
The man standing near Veyron slowly turned his head and—
"...how did you know that?"
He asked with a surprised look on his face.
"You learn to notice when you have to live with that."
Veyron shrugged as he pointed at his brother who was now coming out of the cart with a silly smile.
Yes, the ’that’ he was referring to was his brother.
The man looked at their similar eyes and guessed they were brothers, Veyron didn’t bother with him any longer, he just looked around lazily and his eyes fell on the fruit stall nearby.
One of its wooden supports looked weak.
