Chapter 365 The Weight of Survival

Chapter 365 The Weight of Survival

Occasional deep snores and pained groans drifted through the air.

Near the massive Bonfire Altar at the camp’s center, one person remained awake.

It was NorthWind.

He sat alone on a rock, twig in hand, idly prodding the bonfire. His gaze lingered blankly on the flickering flames, his silhouette looking utterly desolate.

At the sound of footsteps, NorthWind jerked his head up.

Seeing Riley approaching, he quickly stood, brushed dust off his clothes, and stepped forward to greet her.

“You’re back!”

Riley nodded and walked over to the bonfire. She opened her Inventory and spilled dozens of Gust Light Crossbows onto the ground in a clattering rush.

The weapons shimmered with a faint blue glow, stacking up into a small hill.

NorthWind stared at the sight speechless, eyes wide with pure

astonishment.

“So many rare blue-tier weapons? You crafted all of these this fast?!”

At this stage of survival, forging even one blue-tier gear required blueprints, materials, plus hours of tedious work. Riley cranking out nearly 50 high-rank weapons alone in one night completely rewrote NorthWind’s understanding of crafting efficiency.

Of course, that workshop had definitely played a big part in it.

“Everyone pooled together all the materials, so I had to get them done fast. Otherwise, how do we hold off hundreds from the WarWolf Guild charging in tomorrow?”

Riley stretched her stiff neck, her tone calm. “Pass some out to the members on night watch. We’ll divide the rest at dawn, “Got it! I’ll have to pay you the crafting fee once we get through this mess,” NorthWind said.

“No rush,” Riley replied. She’d never done this for profit anyway. If the Icefield Drifters Alliance could stand strong again after the crisis, settling the payment later would be fine.

“Okay!” NorthWind was beyond grateful. He knew these weapons were their lifeline for tomorrow’s defense battle.

The two worked together, and the crossbows were quickly delivered to the outer sentry points.

Back at the bonfire, Riley glanced at NorthWind’s bloodied and exhausted eyes.

“Why aren’t you asleep? It’s nearly four in the morning. No one can keep up this level of strain, not with your injuries on top of it, Riley asked casually.

Northwind let out a bitter laugh, picked up the twig again, and dragged it aimlessly across the dirt.-

“Can’t sleep.”

His voice was hearse, tangled with raw, unspoken emotion.

“I know it’s silly to admit, SpicyBurger-but when the camp’s shield broke earlier today, I’d already made up my mind I wasn’t making it out alive.”

NorthWind lifted his gaze, sweeping over the battered yet still standing camp buildings, and the alliance members fast asleep in the wooden shelters.

“I even handed all my gear over to the others, fully ready to die. But… no one’s ever truly fearless of death.”

His head dropped, eyes glistening faintly.

“I watched everyone stand their ground to protect this camp. Saw guys charging in with explosives to take enemies down with them. Saw the guild leader drop every prior agreement just to come reinforce us

“I was grateful, terrified all at once. I’m scared of dying-and even more scared of watching everyone I know throw their lives away for me, for this camp. Every time I close my eyes, all I see is them covered in blood. It’s all just… too much.”
