“Don’t get ahead of yourself. Wait till they blow, then you’ll see I wasn’t just running my mouth,” Felix said, holding his head high.

The camp buzzed with lively chatter.

“Still no sign of reinforcements, and WarWolf’s men holding their position aren’t making a move. What’s going on here?” someone asked.

A nearby Icefield Drifters Alliance survivor munched on warm toast and cut in with a grin.

“I reckon they got spooked bad by us yesterday. Word’s out we’ve got dozens of blue-tier light crossbows. They’re probably holed up in their camp right now trying to figure out how to back down!”

“Doesn’t matter what scheme they’re cooking up. Stick together, look out for each other, and we’ll pull through this,” another survivor chimed in.

Deep down, everyone knew it was just quiet comfort before the fight. But after staring death in the face yesterday, no one wanted to break this rare peace.

Riley and PineappleBeer didn’t ruin their upbeat mood either. They found an empty spot and sat down, listening to the casual talk around the bonfire.

Someone suddenly stared down at the system panel on their wrist and let out a long sigh.

“Hey, anyone checked the date?” He pulled their thick coat tighter, voice heavy with melancholy. “It’s already December twentieth. In just a few more days, it’ll be Christmas Eve.”

The lively chatter around the fire died away in an instant, a faint tinge of sorrow hanging thick in the cold air.

“Tell me about it,” a young man mumbled, nose stinging. “If we were still back on Earth, I’d be home on vacation right now, lazing on the couch, snacking on fruits, and watching TV.”

“Quit daydreaming!” An older man slapped the back of his head with a gruff laugh. “We’re stuck in this frozen hellscape, and you’re still hung up on fruits? Be grateful you’re still breathing!”

It was meant as a joke, yet it couldn’t hide the glimmer of longing in everyone’s eyes.

In this deadly frozen apocalypse where death lurked around every corner, holidays felt like nothing more than an unattainable luxury.

“Who says we can’t celebrate?”

Just as the mood turned somber, Riley’s clear, calm voice cut through the crowd.

All heads turned toward her.

Riley set down her grilled meat skewers, letting the firelight trace the rough, frost-chapped faces all around her

“Once we clear out the troublemakers outside and hold our camp, there’s no reason we can’t mark the holiday. If we want to celebrate it, it means something–plain and simple.” Her tone was steady and resolute.

The crowd fell silent for two heartbeats.

Then cheers burst out, loud and unrestrained.

“She’s right! Why shouldn’t we celebrate?”

“We can mix all our old hometown traditions together and make our own one-of-a-kind holiday!”

“Hell yeah!”

Night deepened. Aside from the lookouts on rotating watch duty, most people crawled into their sleeping bags, drifting off with quiet hopes for Christmas.

Riley, PineappleBeer, and TartKing headed back to their black canvas tent, changed into fresh clothes, and lay down to rest.

Everything stayed eerily calm.

Seconds ticked by on the system clock, creeping onward until half-past three in the morning.

It was the dead cold of night-the hour when temperatures plummeted to their lowest, and exhaustion, dulled everyone’s alertness, Wind and snow howled outside the tent, drowning out every faint sound across the snowfield.

Boom-Rumble!

At exactly four o’clock in the morning, a deafening detonation shattered the frozen silence without warning.

The blast was monstrous, shaking the permafrost deep beneath the snow-covered ground.

“What was that?!”

“Enemy raid! All hands on deck!”

The camp erupted into chaos. People scrambled out of their sleeping bags in a panic, slipping on boots, grabbing their weapons, and rushing outside.

The second the explosion hit, Riley, PineappleBeer, and TartKing burst straight out of their tent.

T Riley already gripped her fine-grade dual axes. PineappleBeer twirled her daggel nimbly between her fingers. TartKing quickly stacked buffs on those nearby, holding a magic staff in one hand and a sword in the other.

Everyone poured out of their tents, staring toward the source of the noise.

A stretch of sloped ground roughly two miles from camp blazed with towering flames.

Columns of fire twisted upward into the sky, thick black smoke billowing high above. Even more bizarre, bursts of red and green light exploded one after another high in the air just like festive fireworks. Each bloom faded to reveal a giant smiling face, hover in the pitch-black sky-equal parts absurd and menacing.

“Pfft…” Tartking couldn’t hold back a laugh as she stared at the strange fireworks. “Felix really snuck actual fireworks into those bombs, huh?”

“This scale of the blast means every last bomb went off at once,” PineappleBeer said in a cold tone. Looks like Warwolf’s main reinforcement force walked right into the trap.”

The six metal barrels held far more destructive power than the WarWolf Guild had anticipated. By the light of the blazing flames, Riley could make out a small avalanche breaking loose on the distant snowy slope.

The rest of the group finally realized what was happening-the traps Riley and PineappleBeer had laid at dusk had gone off at last. Quite a few stood mesmerized, gazing at the brilliant bursts of light like festive fireworks.

Felix also got to prove his craftsmanship, soaking the praise pouring in from those around him.

Yet before anyone could cheer over their perfectly executed ambush, a thunderous roar boomed from the WarWolf Guild’s temporary camp.

Hum-

A deep, rumbling mechanical drone cut through the wind and snow, low and menacing like a wild monster’s growl.

n

“All hands brace for battle! Get to the watchtowers! Gear up and fight!” Riley’s face hardened as she snapped to full alert, shouting the command sharply.

WarWolf Guild had been enraged to the core by the explosion. Or rather, they knew their backup route was severed; any further delay would only send their morale crumbling apart.

BloodWolf had gone all-in with no turning back. Ambushed and battered, they skipped all regrouping and launched an all-out assault without hesitation.

On the other side of the great rift, which had been pitch-black a moment ago, dozens of blinding searchlights suddenly flared to life.

The harsh beams tore through the night, flooding the open ground before the Icefield Drifters Alliance camp as bright as day.

“They’re charging in full force!”

NorthWind sprinted to the front lines with a longsword in hand. After taking in the scene lit by the enemy’s floodlights, he drew in a sharp breath.

From WarWolf’s formation, a dense tide of players surged forward in droves. A quick glance counted no fewer than 200 of them.

Leading the pack were two menacing tracked armored vehicles. Their heavy steel plating glinted under the lights, tank creads crunching over snow with an eerie grating squeal.

Γ

Between the two vehicles, a snowmobile identical to Riley’s reared to life. Riding atop it was a lean, sharp-featured man with cold, piercing eyes-none other than BloodWolf, leader of WarWolf Guild.

“Icefield Drifters Alliance! Hope Guild! Do you really think we can be bullied so easily? Charge and kill them all!!” BloodWolf’s enraged roar boomed across the snow plains, amplified by some magical sound-projection item.

m! Boom! Boom!

Volf’s mage squad began chanting in the rear. Fireballs and ice shards streaked across the night sky, slamming into the Icefield ers’ defenses, crashing against spike barricades and abandoned siege vehicles in bursts of blazing light.

tay calm! Let them step into the minefield first!” Riley commanded steadily. “Crossbowmen, take aim! Hold fire fill the explosions go off!”

Players armed with Gust Light Crossbows crouched tight behind the camp’s defensive barriers, fingers hovering over triggers,

Under the cover of the two armored vehicles, WarWolf’s vanguard finally marched straight into the second gasoline barrel minefield Felix had set the day before.

BOOM!

The detonation erupted a mere 50 yards ahead of the camp.
