The item card activated in an instant. A semicircular barrier stretching two yards in radjus bloomed out of thin air centered on

dout

BloodWolf, blocking every crossbow bolt shot its way without fail.

Protected by the shield, BloodWolf walked unhindered straight to the camp gate, ready to activate another item. Behind him, WarWolf’s members surged with renewed morale, scrambling forward to slip into the barrier and escape the endless bolt suppression.

“His shield can’t be pierced by regular shots. Focus fire on their main force in the back-don’t waste bolts.” PineappleBeer called out a sharp warning. “We can’t let him use any more items. The camp gate won’t hold!”

The words barely left her mouth before PineappleBeer flipped off the outer wall, dagger darting straight for BloodWolf’s neck.

Her speed was blindingly fast. BloodWolf barely had time to react, dismissing his item card as an ornate scythe materialized in his grip, narrowly parrying the strike.

Seeing PineappleBeer charge in alone, Riley did not hesitate for a second. She vaulted down as well, seizing the opening while BloodWolf was locked in defense. Her dual axes sliced toward him; though he hunched back to evade the blow, Riley twisted sideways and delivered a solid kick, sending him crashing backward.

BloodWolf rolled across the snow several times before steadying himself at the barrier’s edge and rising to his feet.

“SpicyBurger!” BloodWolf’s eyes blazed crimson the moment he stood, locking onto Riley with unbridled fury.

“It all makes sense now. An assassin with insane speed, a warrior wielding dual axes. My two snowmobiles were stolen by the two of you, weren’t they?” He raised his scythe, snarling in accusation.

“So what? We actually need one more. You planning on handing it over for free?” Riley shrugged, completely unfazed by his rage.

Even so, PineappleBeer had already sized up BloodWolf’s strength from their brief clash. She lowered her voice to warn Riley quietly.

“He’s packing solid stats and stacked purple-tier gear. Stay sharp. We don’t have to take him down entirely-just keep him from wrecking the camp gate while his shield lasts.”

“Got it.”

Though his expression remained unchanged, BloodWolf was inwardly stunned. He’d never expected an assassin built for stealth to hit with such raw power, nor a warrior strong enough to nearly knock him flat with one kick. With seven pieces of purple gear equipped himself, he couldn’t help wondering if Riley might even have an orange-tier item.

BloodWolf scanned Riley’s outfit. Basic common and green-blue gear were easy to tell apart, but higher tier sets gave no obvious visual tell.

Sensing the threat the two posed, he held back from charging forward, waiting instead for his reinforcements to break through tax crossbow fire. The barrier offered solid cover, giving many WarWolf members a clear chance to close the gap.

But Riley’s side would never let that happen.

Tartking moved forward to support the front lines first, followed by SouthWind, NorthWind, and every other survivor confident in close-quarters combat. They held the fight perimeter around the barrier, absorbing WarWolf’s mounting assault wave after wave.

The battle devolved into a brutal, meat-grinder deadlock.

Fighters dropped every second inside the barrier, the snow soaking dark red with fresh blood.

The savage melee dragged on for more than ten minutes.

Even with stat-enhanced physiques, everyone’s stamina and mental focus were stretched to the absolute limit under the relentless slaughter.

Ice shards and enemy blood coated Riley’s clothes. Her breath came in heavy gasps, yet her grip on axes stayed rock steady.

BloodWolf looked far worse by comparison, his purple armor scored with deep gashes all over.

“You’re one tough bunch. Enough dragging this out.” BloodWolf spat out a mouthful of blood-tinged saliva and barked orders for his men to launch one final suicidal charge.

In that exact moment-

Woo-Gurgle, gurgle-

An eerie, otherworldly howl echoed across the entire snow plain out of nowhere.
