Countless glowing Gust Light Crossbow bolts tore through the blizzard night, slamming into the colossal monsters lumbering toward the camp.
Volley after volley buried itself into the monsters‘ thick hides, yet the damage barely scratched their defenses.
But raw damage was never what Riley aimed for.
Hundreds of bolts stacked their knockback force all at once. The thirty–foot behemoth stumbled, its massive frame sliding half a step backward, leaving two deep furrows carved into the snow beneath its giant paws.
“It worked! It actually pushed it back!” someone shouted, voice cracking with relief.
Heartened by the small victory, survivors cranked the crossbow winches at a frantic pace, reloading without a moment’s pause.
Still, halting one monster was far from ending the threat.
“The ground! Watch the ground!”
SouthWind stood atop the camp wall, roaring at the top of his lungs..
Endless dark shadows surged over the enclosure like a rising tide.
The crawling monsters moved with terrifying speed, scaling the walls by clambering over the piled bodies of their own kind, swarming inward toward every living survivor they spotted.
“Melee fighters, hold the line! Secure the high points–don’t let them breach the walls!”
NorthWind drew his longsword, standing atop a wall watchtower and cutting down any monster that drew
near.
One crawler coiled and leaped, breaking through the defense to land inside the camp, lunging straight for Damian.
Clang!
Damian raised a broken towed, bracing it hard against the monster’s jaws, veins bulging along his
arms.
“Woody! Strike its underbelly!”
Woody’s eyes turned sharp. He drove his spear forward through the shield’s gap, stabbing deep into the creature’s soft abdomen. Foul black blood splattered across both men.

Woody rushed in and stabbed the crawler over and over with his spear, but he still couldn’t finish it. Instead, the spear sank too deep, and the monster’s violent twisting yanked him side to side with it
At the critical moment, Hanna finished off another crawler nearby and rushed over. She drove her longsword straight into the monster’s skull.
With a fierce battle cry, she sliced the blade downward, severing the monster’s head clean off.

Feeling the weight above him go still, he lowered the shield and wiped the gore from his eyes. Seeing Hanna had saved him, he spoke gruffly.
“Thanks, Hanna.”
Hanna tossed him a fresh tower shield, her tone sharp with teasing.
“Try not to keep needing
me to bail you out. Step up your game.”
Damian and Woody laughed awkwardly. Hanna wasted no time on idle chatter, turning to cut down more incoming monsters.

He bent to pick up his new shield, only to feel his limbs growing weak and heavy.
He frowned, clenching his fist–and a soft glow washed over his body as TartKing’s voice rang out.
“The monster’s blood carries a paralyzing toxin,” TartKing called out. “Stay clear of it. If you get stricken with paralysis, call for me right away.”
Passing by, she channeled a cleansing buff with her staff before slinging her sword and rushing to reinforce another stretch of the line.
Monsters swarmed in overwhelming numbers. Most survivors were tied down manning crossbows to suppress the giant monsters by the wall, leaving far too few defenders inside the camp to hold back the crawlers. D
On the right side of the defense line, PlumSauce crushed a crawler’s skull with a shovel, only for another abomination to scale the wall in an instant, lunging straight for her neck.
“PlumSauce, move!”
At the last split second, a green–glass bottle arced through the air and smashed square into the monster’s head.
Crash!

PlumSauce and Table, two members of Hope Guild, charged forward from either side, wielding system- enhanced war hammers. They smashed the blinded, writhing crawler into a pulp.
“Nice work!”
