“Alright, alright. Remember, this is your den. You can’t just go spewing fire willy–nilly out in the yard,” Riley warned sternly, pressing her hand on its head. Though she knew the beast might not fully understand human speesh.
“Neeko,” Riley turned to look at the druid girl, who was busy digging for crabs on the beach.
“What’s up, Riley!” Neeko immediately dropped her crab and jogged over
“Take him around to get familiar with the environment. Teach him what he can eat out on the snowfield and what he absolutely shouldn’t touch. Most importantly, make the camp rules crystal clear to him. No attacking the natives, and definitely no loitering around the house Twiggy just finished rebuilding,” Riley instructed.
“Got it, Riley!”
Neeko confidently patted her chest, then turned and started talking to the Flame Wolf.
“Eee–yah! Awooo… squish–squash!”
The Flame Wolf froze for a second, its vertical pupils narrowing slightly as if it understood perfectly. Then, it immediately lowered its head, letting out a series of low, rumbling “awoo–woos” in response.
“Eee–yah! Rawr-” Neeko stood with her hands on her hips, a serious expression on her face as she pointed toward the portal leading outside.
“Awoo…” The Flame Wolf instantly tucked its tail between its legs, nodding repeatedly.
Watching this encrypted, cross–species communication, Riley, PineappleBeer, and TartKing just stared at each other in bewilderment.
They couldn’t understand a single word, but they were deeply impressed.
After enjoying the rare, warm sea breeze on the beach for a while longer, the three girls stepped back through the portal and returned to the main house, where the bitter winter winds were still howling outside.
Inside the living room, smokeless coal burned quietly in the fireplace. On the long wooden table sat hot tea and several plates of exquisite, stamina–restoring pastries that TartKing had set out earlier.
The three of them found comfortable spots and practically meited into the sofas.
Only in this moment, with the howling blizzard locked outside and the chaos finally fading away, did that bone–deep exhaustion truly begin to set in.
However, this sudden deep–layer monster horde and the subsequent series of massive upheavals left far too many glaring

“Pineapple,” Riley took a sip of hot tea and looked across at PineappleBeer. “There were too many people out on the battlefield, so I didn’t ask. Do you think… this monster horde was normal?”
PineappleBeer’s movements paused for a split second.
As a survivor with memories of a past life, her understanding of this world definitely surpassed that of an ordinary person.

Not normal at all,” PineappleBeer replied.

“In my memory, the mechanics of this snowfield map do spawn stronger and stronger monsters over time, or as the general player level goes up. Like, after the Super Blizzard ends, the wild Blood Wolves will evolve into Frost Wolves, and you’ll even start seeing low–tier Yeti. That’s all within the system’s standard ‘gradual progression. But…”
PineappleBeer’s brows furrowed deeply, her voice tightening, “Things like today… those giant monstrosities, the crawlers, and those exploding meat sacks–they absolutely don’t belong in this surface snowfield ecosystem! I’ve only ever seen dark creature swarms of this scale and caliber in the deep layers of the dungeon!”
Hearing this, the teacup in TartKing’s hands trembled, her eyes widening in disbelief. “Are you saying… the monster wave that nearly wiped us all out today ‘crossed borders‘ straight from the deep dungeon? How is that even possible? Would the game system really allow a game–breaking bug like that to happen?”
“What if this isn’t a ‘game system‘ at all?” Riley offered her own theory.
