TartKing casually swung her greatsword, slicing down a few Ghouls. The other survivors moved in, using their melee weapons or firing arrows to clear out the wave of Ghouls leaning against the fence.
No one bothered engaging them for too long. After all, Ghouls spawned infinitely, and everyone’s levels were high enough now that killing them didn’t yield any EXP. Wasting time fighting them was a losing game.
Meanwhile, at the Hope Guild base, the twenty wind turbines spun rapidly in the freezing gales, pumping abundant electricity to every corner of the compound.
On one side of the plaza, a long line had formed outside the guild inn.
Riley wandered over to see what the commotion was about.
“Alright, alright, line up! Stop pushing!”
Bruce stood at the inn entrance, his hands cupped around his mouth like a megaphone, shouting, “If you’ve already registered, go see Hanna to collect your supplies! No double dipping! Take only what you actually need!”
Inside the inn lobby, piles of winter supplies were stacked high.
When Riley and PineappleBeer walked in, LoneWolf was deadpan tossing over a dozen Snow Wolf Fur Coats onto a table.
He wasn’t the only one. More and more veteran members were voluntarily walking up, carrying armfuls of gear.
“I’ve got two Rough Wool Blankets here. No bonus stats, but they keep you warm. Donating them to anyone in the guild who needs ‘em.”
“I’ve got a few extra pairs of leather boots. Blue tier. They’re just collecting dust in my bag anyway. It’s getting cold, let someone who needs them make do with them.”
The apocalypse magnified the absolute worst of human nature, but it could also forge the purest forms of kindness.
Having fought a life–and–death siege together, Hope Guild had forged an incredibly unbreakable sense of unity.

Riley and PineappleBeer watched in silence. Without a word, they opened their Inventories and donated a massive pile of gear they no longer needed.
They had absolutely no use for all those extra blankets and clothes anyway.
With the sleeping arrangements sorted, the next issue was the outdoor temperature.
While it wasn’t too cold inside the buildings, the ambient temperature in the plaza and along the streets of the guild base was pretty low–nowhere near the cozy warmth of a campfire- boosted camp. If a cold snap hit, it would cause a lot of problems.
After a quick brainstorm with Pineapple Beer, they decided to place Explorer’s Torches along the main roads. These torches acted like miniature, mobile campfires. While they didn’t repel monsters, lighting one forcefully raised the temperature by nearly 30°F within a five–yard radius. Since they were special items, they could burn for extended periods by consuming basic resources. These were the exact same items Riley had given Jack when he went back to find an exit.
After some quick coordination, everyone started setting them up along the main roads, intersections, and entrances to key buildings.

In stark contrast to the bustling activity elsewhere, a secluded corner at the edge of the base was incredibly quiet.
The little treant was crouching by the edge of the plaza. Two of its vines delicately pinched the backrest of a bench, shifting it exactly a quarter of an inch to the left, ensuring its distance from the nearby lamppost was flawless down to the millimeter. Satisfied, it let out a soft “Squeak” and dusted off its vines.
“Twiggy, do you have time to help us build a warehouse right now?”
The voice of the native, Tom, called out from behind. The natives who had spent the day building the vineyard and tending crops, along with a group of Hope Guild survivors, were standing in a neat line behind Twiggy, carrying pickaxes and stone bricks.
Tom and the others had obviously seen Twiggy’s construction capabilities; they interacted with it all the time back at the camp.
Hearing the voice, Twiggy turned around, bobbed its emerald head, and pointed toward an empty patch of ground across from Riley’s camp, well within the campfire’s radius.
Everyone was saying a massive blizzard was coming. They needed to quickly build some cold storage to protect the vineyard they had just painstakingly grown using Magic Fertilizer and
