Chapter 444 A Holiday Surprise

Day 137.

To the people of Earth, this number might just be a cold, hard survival tally.

But if converted back to the calendar from before they crossed over

Riley froze.

Today isthe day before New Year’s Eve?she muttered to herself.

It wasn’t until she saw the calendar conversion that the warmest, most bustling holiday from Earth suddenly slammed into her

mind.

Tomorrow was New Year’s Eve.

Riley closed her panel and opened the guild management interface.

Her first instinct was to discuss it in her private group chat with PineappleBeer and TartKing. But then she realized Hope Guild had grown; it wasn’t just the three of them anymore. So, Riley used an item to create a new, exclusive group chat, pulling in PineappleBeer, TartKing, NorthWind, Hanna, and the other core members of Hope Guild.

[SpicyBurger: Hey everyone! I just realized tomorrow is New Year’s Eve.]

The others, who had been about to say their casual hellos, were stunned by the message.

[TartKing: Oh my god! It’s almost the New Year! We must have been here for like four months already!]

[NorthWind: New Year’s Eveit’s supposed to be a day for family reunions]

[Hanna: It’s the holidays, don’t bring up the depressing stuff! What’re you thinking, Boss?]

[SpicyBurger: Since the weather is getting worse anyway, I was thinking we could all take a day off and celebrate the New Year together.]

[PineappleBeer: I’m down.]

ToxicReaper: I have no objections.]

Nobody: Does that mean we have to rush our work today? There are a few tasks I haven’t finished yet.]

[SpicyBurger: It’s fine, business as usual today. Just finish whatever you have on hand. No need to announce it publicly just yet. You guys prep things quietly, and we’ll give everyone a surprise tomorrow.]

[TartKing: Got it, Riley! I’ll go take inventory of the food in the guild warehouse in a bit.]

At 1:00 PM.

The freezing sunlight was pale and weak, hanging diagonally in the dreary grey sky. But even sunlight like this was incredibly precious on the blizzardravaged snowfield.

Chapter 444 A Holiday Surprise

The gates of Hope Guild swung open, and three fully armed exploration squads assembled in the plaza.

PineappleBeer led one squad, heading toward a newly discovered set of ruins in the distance to scavenge for supplies. NorthWind led another, aiming for a frozen river across The Great Rift to drill through the ice for fish and clear out any large monsters nearby.

Meanwhile, Riley led a mixed squad of about a dozen people, marching toward an unexplored region due north of the base.

Her squad consisted of seasoned veterans like Bruce, who had fought in the siege, as well as a few rookies who had just passed their probationary period. It was a mix of old and new, serving as a comprehensive field test.

Aside from their weapons, everyone was hauling two light snow sleds. Hovering above Riley and trailing closely behind her were Ash and C.P.

The three squads marched in three entirely different directions.

Boss, what zone are we hitting today?Bruce asked, tightening his leather coat and exhaling a cloud of white breath.

With C.P. around, everyone felt incredibly relaxed. After all, they had witnessed the Flame Wolf’s combat power firsthand.

Heading north,Riley said, checking her map. PineappleBeer mapped this magical map out on her last run. There’s a resource point over there that should have a decent concentration of scattered loot crates.

The squad trudged heavily through the snow.

Since the surrounding scenery was a monotonous, endless white, and there wasn’t exactly any entertainment while traveling, they just chatted to pass the time. Talking in person wasn’t enough, so they even started bantering in the guild channel.

[Guild ChannelArthur: Boss NorthWind, did you guys catch any fish yet?!]

[Guild ChannelNorthWind: Just managed to drill a hole! This ice is over six feet thick! Felix is trying to figure out if he can blow it open with his new explosives!]
