After backup arrived, Bruce had focused entirely on using his tower shield to tank damage, so he hadn’t been able to see much of the offensive action on the front lines.

Ketchup was gasping for air. Oh my godif we had actually gone up there to pick those flowers, we’d have been digested into bones by now.

Beagle, having narrowly survived, was completely slumped on the ground. He stared at Riley’s back, the terror in his eyes entirely replaced by fanatical worship.

Expressionless, Riley flicked the green slime off her axes and sheathed them at her waist.

Seeing the battle was over, the rest of the squad finally relaxed and started asking questions.

Bruce, what the hell happened in here? We were up top digging through broken tiles when the whole ground started shaking like

crazy.

Bruce dusted off his armor and replied, This giant, stinking fish mutated into a demon. It literally grew these weird, glowing flowers on its chin to lure people in. One wrong step and it swallows you whole.

“Are you serious? You guys okay?

Yeah, we’re fine. We had Riley with us. What could possibly go wrong?

Riley, naturally, paid zero attention to the chatter around her. Her gaze was locked onto the catfish’s massive corpse, which was slowly dissolving into pixels of light.

Once the colossal body fully dissipated, a massive crater was left in its place, filled with thick, sludgy mud. Sitting perfectly isolated on a dry patch of ground in the very center was a flat, teardropshaped treasure chest. Resting on top of the chest was a massive, ashgrey core.

Seeing the core, C.P. began pacing excitedly in place, looking up at Riley for permission.

Although hightier Magic Beast Cores were incredibly valuable, C.P. had been an absolute MVP for Hope Guild. Letting it have the core was more than fair.

Riley patted C.P’s head. Go ahead. It’s yours.

The second it got Riley’s blessing, C.P. lunged across the crater without hesitation. Riley followed right behind with a quick double

jump.

Then, under the absolutely heartbroken, bleedingheart stares of Bruce and Ketchup, the wolf unceremoniously tossed the priceless, toptier core into the air and caught it in its mouth.

Crunch, crunch

Just like chewing on a piece of brittle rock candy, the Flame Wolf shattered the core in three bites and swallowed it down.

The instant it swallowed the core, the Flame Wolf’s fur seemed to darken to an even deeper, richer hue, and its overall size visibly bulked up slightly. It let out a highly satisfied, fishysmelling burp, then obediently trotted over to Riley, affectionately rubbing its massive head against her pant leg.

Riley generously ruffled its fur before turning her attention to the bizarrely shaped treasure chest beside them.

Danger always walked handinhand with opportunity.

Riley popped the chest open. The very first thing she saw in the storage grid interface were rows upon rows of backpacks.

Clicking one at random, she saw that the supplies inside were sparse and fragmented. It clearly wasn’t a fully loaded inventory; a lot of items were missing.

Most likely, just like the supplies in an abandoned camp, the items slowly decayed and vanished over time.

Even so, the sheer, terrifying quantity made Riley click her tongue in shock. There had to be at least a hundred backpacks in there.

Opening and sorting through each backpack one by one right now would be a massive waste of time. Lingering in the wild for too long was never safe, especially with so many guild members in tow. Safety had to come first.

So, Riley hoisted the entire chest, had C.P. grab it in its mouth, and decided to load it onto the sleds to haul back to base before dealing with it.

Once they confirmed the cave was entirely cleared of threats, the squad relaxed and went back to their initial task.

Scouring the ruins, they ended up finding 15 Bronze Chests, 3 Silver Chests, and 1 Gold Chest.

The Bronze Chests were handed out directly as individual bonusesone for everyoneand cracked open right on the spot.

The leftover Bronze Chests, along with the Silver and Gold ones, were loaded up to be taken back to the Guild Warehouse for future

distribution.

If this were a normal guild, people might have grumbled about this allocation. But in Hope Guild, everyone implicitly trusted Riley.
