Dozens of survivors lingered, scattered across every shadowed corner. Their eyes burned with a messy mix of hunger and terror, all fixed firmly on the stone bridge and the glowing hall beyond. Yet not a single one dared step out of the darkness.

Looks like we’re not the only ones pinned down out here.LoneWolf lowered his voice to a murmur.

A cold smirk tugged at Riley’s lips. She saw straight through the raidersscheme.

This outpost only preys on the weak, she said in an icy tone. They don’t dare stop toptier teams or major guild main forces- they know they can’t take them down.

They only bully the small survivors and scrawny parties barely scraping by on Floor 8. Forcing them to hand over 80 percent of their resources is far more efficient than grinding monsters for loot themselves.

Riley turned to face her guild members behind her.

A blind fullfrontal charge will definitely cost us casualties. We need a smarter plan.

She was about to lay out their exact assault tactics when a faint hissing sound drifted out from behind an abandoned semicircular altar to their right.

It sounded like someone whispering urgently.

Riley’s brows tightened. She gripped her two axes tighter and snuck ahead, with Hanna right behind her.

A woman in her thirties peeked out from behind the broken wall. A fresh scrape marred her cheek, and her hair was tied up in a messy, disheveled knot.

Stepping around the altar’s crumbled stone pillars, Riley spotted three more survivors huddled beside her. One clutched their stomach in pain, another hugged their knees to their chest, and all of their gear was tattered and broken beyond repair.

The group waved quickly the moment they saw Riley.

Don’t go any closer, the woman warned, her voice thick with worry. It’s deadly up there.

Riley hesitated for a split second. She suppressed her killing intent and crouched down to meet their eyes.

What other choice do we have?she asked knowingly. Just hide here forever?”

ľ

She scanned the shadowed tunnels as she spoke, finally taking in the full scene. Countless survivors were concealed all around :hem.

Some cowered behind collapsed walls, some squatted beside broken stone statues, and others crammed themselves into narrow crevices. They draped tattered cloth over their bodies and clutched short daggers tightly in hands. All of them were worn to rag their equipment in shambles, their gazes sharp with vigilance yet dulled by hopelessness.

They refused to leave their cover.

But none dared advance forward either.

The woman swallowed. They strip you clean. Potions, food, weaponsthey take every good thing you have. Anyone who resists gets crippled and thrown back out to die.

You’ve got more people, but it won’t help. They have ballista emplacements set up on the bridge

She glanced warily at Riley’s party.

The guild members had draped loose cloaks over their gear to blend in as stray survivors. Though they were in solid condition after hours of grinding, their dustcovered appearance made them look no different from players fresh out of monster hordes.

The woman’s concern deepened.

Your team looks banged up too,she whispered even more quietly. Don’t think you can sneak through with numbers. A group tried that earlier. They got caught, lost every last supply, and barely escaped with their lives,

A younger girl hugging her knees lifted her head, her cracked lips parting weakly.

Waita little longer, she suggested without any real hope. Maybe the big guild’s inside will start fighting each other. Their guard might loosen up then.

She knew better than anyone how empty her words were.

Waiting solved nothing.

The Black Fog kept creeping upward. Monsters kept respawning. Trapped players would soon run out of food and water, driven slowly to desperation.

The weak never earned mercy.

Riley studied the small group before her.
