The 20–hour deadline was rapidly drawing to a close.
Even so, lots of guild members were still missing.

Torch warmth dried the air inside the abandoned stone chamber. The group had set up makeshift stoves and begun preparing simple meals.
Yet this fleeting warmth could never chase away the heavy tension hanging over everyone.
Bruce stared blankly at a faded communication card before letting his arm drop limply to his side.
“President,” he said in a hoarse voice. “There hasn’t been a single reply on the channel for half an hour. I think everyone we can possibly reach on Floor 8 is already here.”
Riley paused mid–stir of the simmering soup. Her gaze swept across the cramped chamber packed tight with survivors.
Following her prior orders, the wounded rested in the inner circle near the torches to warm up, their injuries fully healed by potions. All combat–ready members stood posted on the outer ring, on constant watch.
“What’s our total headcount now?” Riley asked.
“Forty–three Hope Guild members in total at this base.” Hanna’s voice was quiet, heavy with sorrow over the toll they’d taken.
Forty–three people.
A deathly silence fell over the chamber at the number.
After regrouping through the terrible snowstorm stretch, Hope Guild had almost one hundred people on its roster–including new recruits from the Icefield Drifters Alliance branch. Even counting the small team that made it to the central hall, many more people were still gone without a single clue.
Riley’s eyes scanned the crowd.
She spotted Bruce, LoneWolf, and several familiar faces.
But NorthWind, Nobody, ToxicReaper, TartKing, PineappleBeer–so many familiar figures were gone.
No one spoke the unspoken truth hanging over them, yet every single person understood it clearly.
n this dungeon of permanent death, no response almost always meant permanent erasure by the system.
Riley stood beside the fire, flickering flames casting light and shadow across her features.
As guild leader, she could not afford to show weakness. But as someone who had fought and survived alongside every one of these members, a sharp, stinging pain gnawed relentlessly at her heart.
“Those of you who arrived later on Floor 8… did any of you encounter the Black Fog?” Riley asked.
The group exchanged uneasy glances before Dayshift and a few others stepped forward.

“We spawned on Floor 6,” Dayshift explained. “The Black Fog showed up not long after we entered. It chased us all the way to Floor 7, then vanished. Does that mean the fog keeps climbing higher?”
Riley nodded. “It devours every floor, steadily upward.”
Her earlier calculations had been accurate. The Black Fog had most likely already swallowed Floor 7. Dayshift’s group had narrowly escaped by fleeing straight to Floor 8 just in time.
“Everyone check and repair your gear. We move out in ten minutes.”
Ten minutes later, the forty–three–member team slipped silently out of the stone chamber and advanced swiftly toward the core regior
The tunnels widened drastically as they neared the central hall. Carved murals and the broken remnants of massive magical light arrays lined the stone walls, marking the dungeon’s ancient design.
At the same time, the stench of blood grew thicker and heavier with every step.

Riley raised a hand at a corner roughly eight hundred yards from the main hall entrance.
