Crossbow bolts tore into the mushroom clusters. Swarms of translucent lamp bodies burst apart, dripping slimy mucus all over the ground.
The frontline tank members raised their shields and blocked the falling residue.
Taking advantage of the brief retreat of the fungus tendrils, LoneWolf stepped onto the broken wall and leaped upward. He drove his dagger into a stone crack to steady himself, then scaled higher in one fluid motion.
He moved fast, like a shadow gliding along the stone surface.
The ceiling fungus clusters sensed the threat. Dozens of thick tendrils twisted toward him at once.
This was the opening Riley had been waiting for.
She hurled one of her axes.
The spinning blade sliced through the incoming tendrils, carving out a clear, temporary path for LoneWolf.
LoneWolf didn’t waste the chance.
He flipped over the top stone ledge, gripped his dagger backward, and drove it straight into the hidden fleshy mass.
The moment the blade sank into soft tissue, every mushroom lamp in the tunnel shuddered violently.
“That’s the main body!” Hanna shouted.
Hope Guild’s crossbowmen instantly shifted their fire.
All bolts locked onto the spot where LoneWolf stood.
The hidden core could no longer disguise itself.
The fleshy mass ripped free from the ceiling, revealing a massive, bulbous fungal monster. It had no eyes. A ringed, tooth–lined maw split open at its center, lined with countless tiny barbs.
Every mushroom lamp was nothing more than bait and extended tendrils growing from its body.
A system name popped into view.
Lamp–Mimic Fungal Mother]
Riley didn’t give it time to spawn more tendrils.
She sprinted toward a stone pillar, stepped off its raised edge, and pulled off a second jump to boost her height. Her thrown axe boomeranged back to her hand, and she drew her second axe mid–air.
She crossed both blades and slashed hard into the exposed fungal bulb.
Trapped by LoneWolf’s close–quarters attack and pinned under concentrated crossbow fire, the Fungal Mother’s defenses were far weaker than the hard–shelled apes they’d fought earlier.

The axe blades bit deep into the bulb. Thick, sticky fluid sprayed out from the wounds.
Riley landed and steppas back mediately to avoid the splash.
Hanna’s bolts followed right after, punching repeatedly into the rim of the monster’s maw.

LoneWolf flipped across the ceiling to dodge the last few struggling tendrils, then drove his dagger deep into the root of the main body.
The Fungal Mother let out a sound like bursting bubbles. Half the mushroom lamps in the tunnel died out in an instant.
The remaining tendrils went limp and hung motionless.
No one moved in to loot right away.
Riley waited several seconds, only letting the team clean up the scene once the system loot prompt appeared.
“Everyone alright?”
RedBean spun around to check the team’s condition.
“Two in the backline got grazed and have minor paralysis. They drank antidotes and are fine. The member who almost got tangled only has a small neck cut. No poison.”
The injured player still looked pale and spoke quietly.
“I’m staying away from walls from now on.”
Riley glanced at him.
“As long as you’re fine, that’s all that matters.”
Bruce prodded the dead fungus wreckage with his spear.
“This thing sure knew how to hide.”
LoneWolf jumped down. He wiped mucus off his dagger with a cloth, a smudge of slime still on his shoulder.
“President, it dropped a ton of stuff. Want me to check it out first?”
C
Riley nodded.
LoneWolf was a powerful fighter, but he always zeroed in on loot the second a fight ended.
The Fungal Mother’s drops were far better than regular mobs!
Along with fungal threads, poison sacs, Frost Tokens, and a stack of special exchange vouchers, it dropped a purple–grade piece of gear.
A set of light armor pauldrons.

As soon as the stats showed up, everyone’s eyes turned to LoneWolf..
The gear was perfect for a scout–class player.
Still, LoneWolf didn’t take it right away.
“Hanna could use this too.”
Hanna glanced at the stats and shook her head.
“I need consistent damage output right now. This fits you better. The terrain on Floor 9 is brutal for flank scouts–you’re in far more danger than me.”
Riley backed the call.
“Give it to LoneWolf.”
RedBean logged the item and handed the pauldrons over.
