Riley had thought it was just leftover memories stirring things up, or severe mental exhaustion that rest could fix.
It was clearly far more serious than that.
The inn entrance was crowded. Riley shoved straight through the crowd, drawing a string of
shouts from the people around her.
angry
The NPC behind the counter glanced up but made no move to stop her.
Riley paid no attention to any of it and hurried straight up the stairs.
The premium rooms were on the third floor.
The inn had wide staircases. Warm lamps lined both sides of the hallway, and a faint herbal scent hung in the air.
As soon as she reached the third floor, she spotted several people standing outside Room 307.
NorthWind, LoneWolf, and ToxicReaper were all there.
Every one of them wore a grave expression.
They stepped aside the second they saw Riley arrive.
Riley pushed the door open and walked inside.
The room was larger than she expected.
The premium room was no simple bedroom. It was a small suite. The outer area had tables and chairs, water supplies, and storage cabinets, covered with thick soft carpets. Runestone slabs embedded in the walls cast gentle, dim light. The glow was easy on the eyes, instantly relaxing anyone who stepped inside.
Under normal circumstances, Riley would have thought the tokens were well spent.
But right now, the room’s comfortable vibe was gone.
Hanna stood by the bed. Nobody crouched on the other side, holding several empty potion bottles with a tense look on her face.
TartKing sat on the edge of the bed, her staff resting against her thigh. Her Vitality Silver Bell

Wristband stayed lit, casting constant yet flickering healing light over the person lying on the bed.
Pineapple Beer lay curled tightly on the mattress.
Cold sweat covered her forehead. Her lips were pale white. She gripped the blanket so hard her knuckles turned white.
What was truly terrifying was not her pained expression.
It was the tiny fragments floating around her body.
The fragments were hard to describe.
They were neither dust nor glowing particles.
One moment they looked like clear shards of glass. The next, they twisted into thin dark lines swirling slowly around PineappleBeer. Every fragment was unstable-spawning, cracking, vanishing, then reappearing elsewhere in the air.
Riley’s heart sank the moment she saw them.
This was no ordinary debuff. It was not poison, nor curse.
TartKing’s voice turned anxious the second she saw Riley.
“Burger!”
Riley walked to the bedside. “When did this start?”
“Right after we got back.” TartKing rushed out. She had already panicked earlier and now forced herself to speak clearly. “I brought Pine and the injured here to rest. We just got the room settled. She sat down and said her head started hurting again. I thought it was the same episode as before and told her to lie down. But it just kept getting worse.”
She gestured at the twisting fragments surrounding PineappleBeer.
“Then these things showed up. Regular healing doesn’t work. Spirit potions don’t work. The wristband’s blessing doesn’t work. We moved her to this premium room, but the room’s natural recovery effect does nothing either.”
Nobody added, “We checked everything. Her HP bar is full. No poison, no physical wounds. Her breathing and heartbeat are normal.”
Hanna said in a low, grim tone, “But she’s in pain. She’s not faking it.”

Riley could see that without anyone telling her.
Pineapple Beer was never one to complain about pain.
She never even winced through her injuries, so long as she could still fight and move.

But now she could not hold back quiet, pained moans. Blue veins bulged on her forehead. Scared of losing control and hurting others, she squeezed the blanket tightly instead of reaching for her weapon.
“PineappleBeer.”
Riley leaned down and lowered her voice.
“Can you hear me?”
Pineapple Beer’s eyelashes fluttered. She forced her eyes open.
