hapter 612 Sudden Emergency
Riley did not head back right away;
She returned to the first–floor hall, ordered another hot drink, and sat down among the crowd.
Now that she had a basic update on the camp situation, she could spare time to gather more intel.
People came and went quickly in the communication building. News spread far faster here than on the outer streets.

She moved to two different spots, listened in on several groups‘ conversations, and chatted casually with a few survivors who seemed open to talking.
Riley did not deliberately act weak, nor did she show off her strength.
Her gear spoke for itself. No one mistook her for a new player. She simply acted like someone who had just arrived at the Floor 15 central hall and asked basic, reasonable questions.
Most people had no problem answering her.
This information was hardly a secret on this floor.
A woman from the Gray Tower Zone 92 told Riley that higher–level resource zones did exist past Floor 15, but the death rate was terrifying. Starting from Floor 16, most areas no longer provided complete maps. Monster strength also scaled with the intruders‘ overall power.
The group also talked about special locations called Survivor Tombs, which appeared frequently in deeper dungeon floors.
Riley’s interest piqued. She joined the conversation to dig for more details.
A man who had cleared two major dungeon runs explained that Survivor Tombs were not real burial grounds. They were hidden stashes left behind by powerful survivors who knew they were going to die.
These stashes could hold gear, materials, and experience journals. They could also be full of traps and toxic corruption.
Stashes left by ordinary survivors only contained basic junk. But on higher floors, some stashes came from nearly NPC–level powerful survivors. A few even housed legendary artifacts.
No one fully understood these artifacts, and descriptions were vague.
Some said artifacts worked across all dungeon runs. Some said artifact fragments could rewrite a player’s class progression. Others claimed most so–called artifacts were just hype pushed by merchants, and real legendary items never appeared in public trade.
There were clear benefits to pushing deeper. Many top–tier items were time–locked. They did not respawn every dungeon cycle. The earlier players advanced, the higher their chance of grabbing these rare treasures.
The downside was equally obvious–extreme, deadly risk.
Whether to keep descending and gamble their lives for high–tier loot was every survivor’s personal choice.
The casual chatter around her continued.
“Do you really think these NPCs were once survivors?”

“Who knows. I met an old guy once. He said he was from Earth too, but he never went back to his server. He stayed in the transit city instead. Dude talked crazy half the time, so can’t tell if it’s true.”
“From Earth? How’d he end up an NPC? His progress is way ahead of ours.”
“He stayed in the transit city? You can choose not to go back?”
“No clue. Maybe you can, but the cost must be huge. I’ve built a decent camp in the snowfields. I’m not living like a stray out here.”
“Same here. No one would willingly stay in this awful place.”
Riley walked out of the communication building into bright sunlight.
The town streets bustled with people. Shopkeepers sold their goods listlessly. Survivors hurried past. The portal leading to the next floor stood silently in the center square.
Riley paused at the entrance and checked her communication panel.
RedBean had sent a message.
[RedBean: The first batch of severely injured members have settled into the inn. Their conditions are stable. TartKing and PineappleBeer are resting as well. All squads are heading out in teams of six with reporting. No issues so far.]
Hanna’s message popped up right after.
[Hanna: A few outsiders came snooping around. I sent them off. No conflicts occurred.]
The camp was holding steady.
The Hope Guild was safe for now.
Their next plan was simple: spend tokens, rest up, repair gear, resupply, and wait for the dungeon timer to end.
Riley had planned to wander the nearby streets, when a new notification flashed on her screen.
It was from TartKing.
[TartKing: Burger, come back fast!]
