The woman stared at them for a few seconds. Once she confirmed they weren’t moving closer, she lowered her long hook slightly.

She then warned the trio to watch out for a chest hidden in the left canal.

Both groups nodded in silent thanks and went their separate ways.

She didn’t ask for their names.

Neither did they.

Survivors on Floor 17 were far quieter than those on Floor 16. Everyone was only focused on how much longer they could hold on.

After the pair walked off, TartKing spoke in a quiet voice. They look worse off than us. Honestly, people here are way friendlier than on the previous floors.

Pineapple Beer glanced toward the direction where the two survivors had vanished.

They only look broke. Their bags could be stuffed with toptier loot they’re trying to sneak back to the central hall. Besides, this floor is brutal. No one wants to fight other survivors here.

So did we just miss out on their godly drops?TartKing joked.

Riley ignored the banter.

Her eyes locked on the left canal.

There really was a chest there.

It was wedged under a broken stone beam, halfsubmerged in the shallow water, with a few white bones lying on top of the lid. No mobs patrolled nearby, and the water surface looked completely calm.

Too calm. Like it was specifically waiting for someone to walk right in.

PineappleBeer tossed a small rock into the water.

Nothing happened.

She threw a second stone.

Three Bone Lizards suddenly shot out from underwater. They moved as fast as arrows, snapping their jaws at the spot where the rock fell before slipping back into the water without a sound.

TartKing’s mouth twitched.

This chest is straight up baiting people.”

Riley studied the chest’s position. We can open it.”

Tartking turned to her, looking doubtful. You sure?

Youth.”

Riley pulled out two RimeHalt Spikes and handed one to Pineapple Beer.

Pineapple Beer took it and instantly got her plan.

The two of them crept toward the canal’s edge, one on the left and one on the right.

Tart King stayed back. She first cast Silent Bell Blessing on Riley, then switched her greatsword into her grip, ready for combat.

Riley stepped into the shallow water.

The second the water rippled, all three Bone Lizards moved.

They darted out from different angles, targeting only her ankles instead of her upper body.

Riley waited until they got close, then hurled the RimeHalt Spikes straight into the water.

Frigid frost burst through the shallow water.

The lizards froze stiff midmovement.

Pineapple Beer leaped down from the side wall, stabbing twice with her TimeSevering Shadow Blade and severing the spines of two lizards. The third one broke free of the frost and lunged straight for her calf.

TartKing swung her hammer without hesitation.

No spells, no fancy skills.

She purely used her little chestopening hammer.

The hit knocked the lizard off course. Riley brought her axe down and sliced it straight underwater.

TartKing stared down at the small hammer in her hand, stunned for a second.

This thing’s actually pretty handy.

Pineapple Beer wiped the water off her blade. Didn’t know you were so quick to ditch your old weapons.”

Riley blocked a stray claw reaching out from the other side of the canal. Open the chest first.

TartKing rushed over at once and knocked the bones off the chest lid with her hammer.

The second the bones shattered, a Canal Bone Stitcher crept out from behind the stone beam.

It had long arms with hooklike finger bones, and it swiped straight for TartKing’s back.

Pineapple Beer had been waiting for it to show itself.

Her BreathBite Wolftooth Necklace flared brightly, marking the monster instantly.

The stitcher’s shoulder joint locked up for a split second midattack. Pineapple Beer activated Time Distort, blinked behind it, and drove her shadow blade into the stitched joints at the base of its neck.

Right after, Riley tossed one of her Storm Splitter Dual Axes.

The spinning wind blade sliced across the stitcher’s chest, forcing it backward.

Tart King crouched over the chest, picking the lock as fast as she could.

Got it!

The chest lid popped open.
