Chapter 672 The Mountain’s Call

Chapter 672 The Mountain’s Call

PineappleBeer pressed her tips together.

Then just call it a guess.

Riley shot her a glance.

Pretty good guess. Keep going.

PineappleBeer paused for a split second, then smiled.

It was her usual smile, the one she always had.

You’ve gotten way better at talking, Riley.

Quit the flattery,Riley said. Lead the way. We’re in the final stretch. Let’s finish this properly and head home together.

The three of them kept moving toward the mountain’s base.

There were no proper paths down here.

The grass had been torn away, leaving wide stretches of black and crimson rock. All kinds of fragments were wedged between the stone layersscraps of metal, monster bone shards, broken wooden planks from cabins, and dark crystal chunks with no clear purpose. Most of the debris hung frozen midair, locked in the outward blast of an explosion.

The farther they went, the more the frozen scenery looked like a halted detonation.

A fourarmed monster hovered midair, its chest caved in from a black stone slab slamming into it. Its body stayed perfectly still, not flying away from the impact at all.

A whole row of trees had been bent flat by the shockwave, their crowns all facing outward. Countless leaves drifted off the branches and hung suspended in the wind.

There was fire on the ground too.

Flames were frozen inside the rock cracks, locked midrise. They didn’t flicker, and they didn’t burn out. When Tartking stepped too close, the warm gold crystal on her gloves lit up faintly.

She jumped back right away.

This fire’s frozen too?

Riley picked up a regular pebble and tossed it at the empty space beside the flames.

The stone slowed drastically midflight, like it was sinking through thick water. It inched forward little by little before stopping three inches away from the fire.

The flames didn’t touch it.

But the pebble’s surface started glowing red hot.

Riley watched it for a few seconds.

TartKing fell into step right behind her.

PineappleBeer stopped in front of the frozen flames for a moment.

She stared at the fire’s core, faint silvergray light surfacing in her eyes.

She swore she heard something.

PineappleBeer stumbled slightly on her feet.

Riley reached out and steadied her.

What did you see?

PineappleBeer blinked once.

The vision vanished.

She swallowed softly.

There’s something inside the mountain.

TartKing hurried over, voice tight with anxiety. What is it?

PineappleBeer gazed up at the towering blackred mountain. Dim light flowed slowly through the cracks on its hillside, like magma, yet colder and duller.

I don’t know its name.

She paused, her tone dropping to a quiet murmur.

But it’s waiting for me.

Riley’s grip on her axe tightened.

Is this

Ever since they’d stepped onto Floor 20, they’d witnessed one bizarre anomaly after another. It was like endless invisible threads all stretching toward one personPineappleBeer.

But looking at her now, TartKing still saw the same old Pine. Sharptongued, protective, always shoving her behind the front lines when danger showed up.

She wasn’t letting her go in there alone.
