“Who the hell cares what it’s called? Just get over here and help me!” The squad leader with the greatsword was drenched in sweat, barely managing to parry Riley’s relentless attacks.
Riley stole a quick glance over her shoulder. Neeko was wagging her tail excitedly, like she was waiting for
a treat.
The big guy with the shield began to pivot, gathering himself to charge at Riley—but Neeko was already in motion.
“GRRROOOAAAH–!!!”
Uncoiling like a spring, Neeko rolled forward and shifted back into her bear form. With a roar that shook the ground, she plowed straight into the group.
The shield–bearer caught the full impact. “BAM!” He was thrown backward, shield and all, crashing hard against the jagged cave wall. Neeko didn’t let up–she barreled after him.
Now that the threat of that weird flask was gone, Riley allowed herself a fraction of relief. She put more weight into her next swing, then drove her boot hard into the leader’s chest, sending him stumbling back.
But instead of pressing the attack, she used the momentum to spin around and hurl her hand axe.
“Thunk!”
The archer, who’d been desperately scrambling for his knife, didn’t even have time to react. The axe struck him square in the chest. A choked, wet gurgle escaped his lips before he crumpled to the ground.
“Please… don’t kill me! I can make potions! I can heal the party in dungeons!”
The last woman had sunk to her knees, trembling. Her dagger lay uselessly beside her.
Riley didn’t bother looking at her. She strode over, wrenched her axe free with a sickening schlick, and in one fluid motion, swung it backhanded without breaking her stride.
A crimson arc sprayed across the cave wall.
In this world, showing mercy to an enemy was just screwing yourself over. They’d come here loaded with the Weakness potion, planning to rob and murder. They’d better be ready to get killed instead.
The whole thing had taken less than thirty seconds.
Three dead. One badly wounded.
Only the leader remained, clutching his cracked ribs, slumped against the wall and coughing up bloody froth. His eyes were wide with pure, undiluted terror.
Faced with this woman’s brutal, ruthless efficiency, everything he’d done felt like some pathetic joke. Riley walked toward him slowly. Necko, shifted back to human form, silently handed her the confiscated

flask.
“Splash Potion of Weakness (Fine Quality)
“Effect: Reduces the target’s physical and mental attributes by 50% for 3 minutes.”
Riley stored the potion in her inventory, then looked down at the leader, casually spinning her axe in her hand. “Your buddy Rat told me everything. Feel like joining him?”
The leader let out a bitter, gurgling laugh. “Cough… So he talked. Big deal. You killed us. So what?
“You think you’ve won?” His gaze wasn’t dimming–instead, it burned with a feverish, almost fanatical intensity. “You have no idea who you’re messing with.
“The Guild Master… He’s like a god. He won’t let this slide. You can’t run from this.”
“A god?” Riley snorted and planted her boot firmly on his wrist, grinding down. “Some coward who hides in the shadows calls himself a god?”
“Shut your mouth!” The leader flinched as if struck, struggling weakly. “The boss is building his power! He understands the truth of this world–what do you know?
“All the resources we gather for him, he can turn into legendary gear! This pauldron… this pauldron is just the beginning!”
That caught Riley’s attention.
Trade supplies for gear?
“So you’re saying, if you bring him materials, he hands out stat–boosting equipment like this?”
“Exactly!” The leader’s face twisted with zealous fervor. “The boss has a unique Gift! With enough resources, he can mass–produce growth gear like this! Once we collect enough Guild Cards and he forms an official System–recognized guild, all of us will get even stronger!
“Then this whole snowfield will be our hunting ground. You so–called ‘players? You’re just livestock we’re fattening up for the slaughter.”
Riley’s frown deepened.
A Gift that could mass–produce attribute gear… That was seriously dangerous. If Nightfall really got established, a few hundred elites decked out in all–stat bonuses could sweep the entire region clean.
“One more thing.”
Riley crouched down, pressing the cold edge of her axe blade against the leader’s throat. “Sounds like you’ve already hit a lot of people. What happens to those who die out here? On the snowfield itself, not in a dungeon?”
That was what Riley cared about most.
