The slideshow wasn’t even finished before things took a turn.
Another slide popped up, and Henry called out, “But I haven’t finished looking yet!”
Everyone turned to look at the little boy snuggled in Andre’s arms.
Andre leaned down and asked, “Do you understand what’s on the screen?”
Henry shook his head. “I get the pictures.”
Andre couldn’t help but laugh. He motioned for the meeting to go on, then gently coaxed his son, “When the meeting’s over, Daddy will show you everything. For now, let’s keep it quiet, okay?”
During the presentation, someone started speaking fluent English. Henry’s eyes lit up with curiosity. How did everyone sound so magical when they spoke like that?
“Daddy, I can’t talk like that. Can you teach me?” Henry whispered, wrapping his arms around Andre’s neck, careful not to make a fuss after Daddy told him to be quiet.
Andre smiled, hugging him close. “Of course.”
The meeting was supposed to last two hours, but with all the interruptions, it stretched out another thirty minutes.
Because Henry was there, Andre skipped divvying up tasks and targets in front of everyone—Noah would follow up with the details later.
Then, Henry tugged at his dad’s neck again, a new urgency in his eyes. “Daddy, I can’t hold it anymore!”
“Alright, meeting’s over,” Andre announced, scooping up his son and making a dash for the bathroom.
After school, Mia called her husband. “Hey, babe, is your meeting over?”
Henry answered, clutching the phone. “We finished, Mommy! Daddy and I are done.”
“Wait, why do you have my husband’s phone? Where is he?”
Henry giggled. “Daddy’s helping me with my pants, hee hee!”
Andre got Henry sorted, then picked up the phone. “Hey, Mia. The meeting ran a little long. You done with class?”
