Eventually, Mia got her way, and they parked the car at the designated spot. A fresh layer of snow had unknowingly accumulated on top. Students finishing school walked together along the road, passing the car and drawing patterns on its hood.
They took out the bags of clothes from the trunk.
Molly spoke up again. "Andre, I've never driven in these conditions. I want to try."
Andre looked at his sister.
Jade felt a little intimidated but pressed on. "I can't just have you guys worry and come pick me up every time the weather gets like this. I want to practice. What if I can handle this kind of road?"
Mia glanced at the sky. The snowflakes were growing larger, swirling like cotton. A blizzard was approaching. She looked over at Noah standing nearby. "She's right, honey. Why don't we let Molly drive us home? That way, Noah can go home and rest early instead of dropping us off. Look how heavy the snow is getting."
Noah nodded. "Thank you for your concern, ma'am."
"Don't mention it. I'm just using you as an excuse."
Noah sighed. "You didn't have to be so blunt about it."
Mia smiled. "I just didn't want you getting the wrong idea."
"Ahem."
Andre cleared his throat, and the two joking around immediately shut their mouths.
Andre made the call. "I'll sit in the passenger seat and guide you. You drive."
Just as everyone was getting into the car, Henry chimed in with another question. "Mommy, we didn't buy any food for Grandpa, Aunt Naomi, or Uncle Bruce!"
So, they headed back to the food cart, and Mia and Molly picked out a bunch of spicy takeout for Hansen to take home.
Andre sat in the passenger seat next to his sister. As she got in, he noticed her side mirrors were covered in snow, obstructing the view.
He stepped back out, wiped the snow off both mirrors until they were clear, and then got back in.
"Thanks, Andre," Molly said.
Andre glanced at her. "I'm your brother."
Molly paused. "Oh. Do you remember I'm your sister when you're lecturing me?"
Having had a little to drink, Andre was feeling slightly more talkative than usual. "If you weren't my sister, I wouldn't bother."
