Hansen sat comfortably on the couch watching TV, while Leo and Chunky carried plates out of the kitchen.

Naomi pulled the hot food from the stove. "These are the vegetarian ones. Take them out and start eating. Since Anya isn't here, I'll freeze a batch for her so she has something to eat when she gets back."

Bruce obediently followed his wife's orders, helping out in the kitchen.

Anya had returned to her own house the night before. Knowing her boyfriend had his family to keep him company, she had gone home to hang out with her younger brother.

Before leaving, she had meticulously explained where all the pots, pans, and plates were kept. "When your mom comes over to cook tomorrow, make sure you show her where everything is. If you can't find something, just call me."

Leo had pulled his little micromanager into a hug. "Alright, I got it. You're going to miss your ride. Put your coat on, I'm taking you to the station."

With Anya gone and their company on holiday break, Leo had invited Chunky over. Chunky's family lived far away, and since he planned to go back for the Lunar New Year, he had decided to stay in town for New Year's Day.

As fate would have it, Leo's parents and grandfather had come over to visit. "Chunky, come have some food," Leo called out.

Naomi finished cooking another batch of food. "Leo, come grab another plate."

Leo and Chunky instantly raced each other to the kitchen to grab the plates.

At the Byrne family home.

Everyone was bustling about, except for Jade, who had been strictly banished from the kitchen. "Just go watch the kid," they ordered.

Left to her own devices, Molly decided to entertain her son with some half-baked magic tricks she had learned online.

Wayne watched his mother's performance with an entirely blank expression.

The trick was so flawed that Wayne ended up grabbing his mother's hands, trying to correct her technique himself.

Once the food was done and the first batch cooked, Chad packed a large food container. "I'm going to drop this off for the guys on duty at the station."

Upon arriving at the station, Chad carried the food inside.

Years ago, during the New Year when Molly had just been recognized by the Cedillo family, Chad had been stuck on duty. In the dead of night, Molly had suddenly shown up, carrying a warm container of food just for him. That night had left a profound impact on Chad. Ever since then, during every major holiday, Chad remembered that night and made it a personal rule to always bring late-night meals to his officers on duty.

While he went inside the station, Molly stayed out in the courtyard, holding her son and bouncing him around. Wayne let out a bright, bubbling laugh. "Mom, Wayne wants to jump more!"

Molly happily obliged, continuing to bounce around and play with her son.

Five minutes later, Chad emerged. "Molly, sweetie, playtime's over. Get in the car, let's head home."

By the time they got back, dinner at the Byrne house was already set on the table, complete with a few cold appetizers Chad had picked up on the drive home.

Henry was clutching a piece of food in his hand, his eyes glued to the TV, his emotions completely caught up in the drama unfolding on the screen.
