Mia suddenly remembered. "Oh, I took a call earlier. How did it go, Dad? Did you beat that level this afternoon?"
"Of course. Who do you think your dad is?"
That evening, Molly came home.
The two girls didn't know where else to hang out, so they stuffed their pockets with a handful of snacks and vanished into the house.
Anya spent the entire afternoon running around with Janice, visiting the prestigious law firms Mia had recommended. The answers they got matched exactly what Denny had told them. Those top-tier firms only cared about million-dollar corporate cases; they had zero interest in a standard divorce case and simply didn't have the time.
Janice was a decisive woman. She stopped looking for other lawyers and officially settled on Denny that evening, asking him to represent her.
Anya sat with her boyfriend, enjoying some grilled steak while chatting about her day. "Chad, Mia drives so well."
Leo raised an eyebrow. "You want to learn too?"
Anya chewed her steak, nodding and blinking enthusiastically.
Leo had just finished grilling a piece of beef and was about to hand it over. "Chad, it's not cooked yet."
Leo took the beef back and tossed it onto the grill. "Why are you jealous of them? Once you learn how to drive, you'll have to be your own chauffeur every time you go out. They aren't as lucky as you. Since you can't drive, we all get to be your personal chauffeurs."
Leo's logic did absolutely nothing to comfort Anya. The strongest motivation always came from seeing the people closest to her succeed.
After dinner, Anya stubbornly insisted on driving them home.
Even if she got nothing in return, simply knowing she had helped someone made Anya genuinely happy.
She never calculated what she could gain because she had already been given so much in life. She was completely content.
"If you're upset about it, Chad, I won't bring these things home anymore," Anya offered softly.
Leo closed his laptop, turned around, and pulled Anya onto his lap. "Where else would you put them? I'm not scolding you. I'm just worried that while she's getting a divorce, you're the one running around doing all the work. If her husband finds out you're helping her, what if he storms into the office and hurts you? What are you supposed to do if I'm not there?"
Through Anya's stories, Leo already knew the husband was a ruthless piece of work. If Janice tried to leave him with nothing, he would definitely make her life a living hell.
His girl worked at that very company and was deeply involved in helping Janice. If Anya got hurt in the crossfire, it would absolutely break Leo's heart.
