Anya really did want to go. Mr. Calder nodded. "It's a short trip. If you want to go, let's do it."

Leo smiled. "I'll handle the arrangements."

To Anya's parents, Leo had always carried a hint of youthful naivety. Even though he was incredibly capable, his lack of life experience sometimes made his maturity feel a bit forced. But seeing him this time, Leo seemed to be mirroring his uncle's presence more and more. Whether it was the way he spoke, handled logistics, or just carried himself, he was deeply grounded. After dinner, they dropped the Calders off at their hotel, and Leo drove Anya back to the apartment.

In the hotel room, Mrs. Calder remarked to her husband, "Leo has really matured. But our little girl still seems so innocent, like she hasn't grown up at all."

James, assuming 'little girl' meant him, piped up, "Mommy, I'm little!"

Mrs. Calder affectionately pinched her son's cheek. "Sweetie, Mommy isn't talking about you. I'm talking about your big sister."

James pouted. "My sister is little too!"

Mr. Calder took off his coat, left in just his dress shirt, and scooped his son into the air. "So what if my daughter hasn't grown up? Being so pampered that you never have to grow up is a blessing, isn't it, son? Right now, I pamper your mom and your sister. When you grow up, you're going to pamper them too, deal?"

James nodded earnestly, though it was unclear if he actually understood a word of it.

"I just worry that Anya and Leo will eventually drift apart," Mrs. Calder sighed.

Mr. Calder pulled his son close. "Drift apart? I'll admit Leo has grown up a lot, but the more mature he gets, the more he realizes he can't live without our Anya. Stop worrying so much. She managed to find a job in a new city and has been working there for a while now. It's impossible that she hasn't grown at all.

She only acts the exact same way because she's with us. With family, she doesn't have to pretend."

Noticing the time, Mr. Calder clapped his hands. "Alright, time to wash up and get to bed. We're going to that place Leo mentioned tomorrow, and you'll be seeing all your friends too. Get your beauty sleep so you look stunning in the photos tomorrow." He tickled his son. "Us boys will shower last."

That night, back at the apartment, Leo immediately scooped his girlfriend into his arms and planted two aggressive kisses on her lips to make up for lost time. "Leo, you were so serious at the restaurant! You never act like that!"

Leo immediately dropped the act. "No kidding. If I acted like this in front of your parents, your dad would chase me down the street with a kitchen knife."
