The couple chatted on the phone for a while, finally hanging up after little Wayne babbled, "Mama."

Chad put away his phone, opened the car door, and settled his son into the back seat. "Where to, buddy?"

At six-thirty, Chad pulled up to the office building where his father worked.

Entering the lobby, Wayne immediately spotted a large mirror with a slogan plastered across the top.

The toddler stared at his reflection. Bundled up by his mother in a thick, sage-green winter coat, he was carried single-handedly by his father to find his grandfather.

Some employees were already clocking out and heading out the doors as Chad carried his son up the steps.

Wayne looked around the building with wide-eyed curiosity, his little head swiveling in every direction.

"Sweetie?" A familiar voice called out, making Wayne turn to see his uncle.

Mayor Bruce Cedillo was heading out for a site inspection and ran into the family's favorite little guy on his way down.

Scooping Wayne into his arms, Bruce smiled, the crinkles deepening around his eyes. "What brings you here today?"

"Bruce, Daddy brought me," Wayne replied in his sweet, milky voice.

Chad and Bruce exchanged a brief conversation on the stairs before Chad took his son back and continued up to his father's office.

Kendrick hung up the phone just as a knock sounded at his door. "Come in."

The office door swung open, but no one seemed to step inside.

Surprised, Kendrick stood up to check, only to realize his youngest grandson was simply too short. Chad had set him down to walk in on his own, and Kendrick's desk had completely blocked his view of the waddling toddler.

"Hahaha, my sweetie came to pick Grandpa up from work."

Catching sight of his grandfather, Wayne quickened his pace and launched himself into Kendrick's arms.

Kendrick held his grandson close, overflowing with adoration. The little boy was the perfect union of their family.

Wayne was the absolute center of the Byrne family's love. "Are you hungry, sweetie?"
