Later on, Grandma Aubree discovered that the actual price was missing a zero—it was nearly eight thousand dollars. The revelation shocked her so much that she scolded her granddaughter for quite a while. "I'm already at this age, I don't need fancy clothes. You and your mom are still young, you should be the ones wearing nice things. Buying this for me is a complete waste."
Grandma Aubree tucked the coat away like a priceless treasure at the bottom of her trunk, terrified it would get stolen. She planned to save it until next Christmas.
Molly tried to reassure her. "Grandma, just wear it. It's from our own company's line. As the heiress and the boss's wife, I didn't even pay a dime for it."
Grandma Aubree was stunned all over again. "What? Our company sells clothes that expensive?"
That evening, Grandma Aubree earnestly lectured her daughter-in-law and granddaughter. "Don't price things so high, or regular folks won't be able to afford them. Clothes are meant to be worn, not treated like highway robbery."
The two women didn't argue. They listened to Grandma Aubree's complaints for a bit, and it wasn't until Kendrick and Chad stepped in that the dinner table conversation finally shifted away from the business.
That massive price tag had truly shaken Grandma Aubree. Since then, she never dared to ask the price of anything her granddaughter bought.
Over the holidays, she had caught wind that every single item her granddaughter wore, from head to toe, cost a small fortune.
Fortunately, the mother and daughter earned their own money and provided for the elderly couple without a single complaint. They were so attentive and caring that Grandpa Elmer finally told his wife, "Let's just leave it be. Let the kids do what they want. You complaining won't change anything anyway. Didn't Hansen say it best? A good mindset is what matters most."
After that, the two of them never brought it up again.
Arriving at the luxurious restaurant, Grandma Aubree looked around. She desperately wanted to ask how much this place cost, but she swallowed the question.
They initially thought the melodic music was playing over the speakers. But as they reached the second floor, they saw a young girl playing the violin with a deeply emotive expression.
"Is that poor girl tired?" Grandma Aubree asked with concern. "She shouldn't play if she's tired."
"Grandma, she's working," Molly gently reminded her. "Let's head this way."
Walking past the musician, a waiter guided them forward. "Ms. Cedillo, right this way. Mrs. Byrne has been waiting for a while."
