Chapter 312 Auction

“Unfortunately, His Majesty carries an entire Empire-and its people-on his back. So, I had no choice but to tear my heart open little by little, force it wider, and smother my own nature… because when you love someone, you end up loving what they love, too.”

So, that was it.

The first time Sylvara saw a photo-one Veyric showed her-of the Empress looking at His Majesty.

She’d seen it clearly in the Empress’s eyes-an intense possessiveness, the kind that wanted to hide him away where no one else could even look.

And after spending time with Blake, she’d learned that Blake was sly as a fox, sharp with schemes, black- bellied as a crow.

Yet, she’d never once caught that possessiveness in Blake’s gaze-the obsessive, soul-deep madness.

Turns out it wasn’t absent-she’d just crushed it down for His Majesty’s sake.

“And the lie?”

Blake pushed her glasses up. The lenses flashed-and in a heartbeat, she switched faces, smiling brightly. “The lie is: I live for the people, the people live for me. For the Troya Empire, I’ll work myself to the bone-

until death!

“Of course, that’s only if-when I die-I get to share a coffin with His Majesty. Then, and only then, will I be loyal unto death.””

Sylvara coughed lightly.

Somehow, without even touching her, he’d shoved her head straight into a bowl of romantic nonsense again.

Worse-she was the one who’d carried the bowl over and held it out.

“Fine.” Sylvara planted her hands on her knees and stood. “Let’s go buy a Harvest Star. I’m choosing business first-men later.”

Blake was silent for a moment.

What had she said-

That made Sylvara decide that?

And besides…

Why not have success and a man?

Why drop one just to pick the other??

When was Agares’s little wife going to stop breaking every rule in the book?

Chapter 312 Auction

The two of them left the hotel.

They went straight for the auction house.

When they arrived-

The first blade of sunlight cut through the clouds.

The eastern sky was painted in sweeping bands of dawn.

Sylvara closed her eyes for a second, drew in a slow breath, then followed Blake inside.

The auction house was enormous.

Even at this hour, it was packed with people coming and going.

As Blake led Sylvara deeper, she explained, “Cryo Planet is famous for its auction house because it covers every category you can imagine.

“If what you bring is rare enough-premium enough-they’ll appraise it any time, day or night. Once it’s priced, you can choose whatever session you want.

“They run auctions around the clock. With enough halls, they can host up to three hundred sessions in a single day.

“Naturally, the more valuable the item, the later the slot. The most expensive session is usually reserved for midnight.”

Sylvara finally understood. No wonder her saber had been placed in the priciest session the moment it appeared-how much would it take to win something like that?

“And not just anyone gets into the midnight session,” Blake added calmly. “Your assets have to hit this

number.”

As she spoke, she gestured a figure with her hand. “Besides stellar coins, you can barter.”

“The only downside is that the auction house is ruthless. Anything that passes through their hands-cheap or priceless-they’ll take their cut. And they won’t be satisfied with one slice, either. They’ll skin you twice before they let you walk out.”

Skin you twice?

Meaning…

The auction house provided the venue.

It also acted as the middleman, charging both the seller and the buyer.

“They’ve fleeced you, too?” Sylvara asked with a grin. “That doesn’t sound right.”

Blake shot her a sideways look, cool and smug. “Ridiculous. I’m usually the one doing the fleecing. Whoever dares to fleece me is tired of living.”

“Oh?” Sylvara said flatly. “Standing on durian isn’t ‘getting fleeced. At most, your soles suffer.”
