“Oh, right-this is for you.” Blake pulled out a pair of sunglasses from her spatial button, fiddled with the frame for a moment, and handed them over.
Sylvara took the sunglasses, which covered nearly half her face. “What’s this for?”
Blake tapped her forehead. “To watch your husband, obiously. How else did I know he’s sitting right above us?”
Black tech has really gone wild in the Interstellar Era.
Sylvara put the sunglasses on. Instantly, the lenses auto-scanned for Agares. Through a combination of the lenses, frame edges, and reflected angles, she could clearly see him sitting directly above them, staring without blinking.
Her heart skipped. Feeling like she’d been caught red-handed, she yanked the sunglasses down. Her heartbeat instantly went wild.
Blake glanced at Sylvara with a faint, unreadable smile and adjusted her own glasses, turning back to the auction stage.
Boom!
The lights in the auction hall dimmed.
Only a massive spotlight shone down on the auction platform, illuminating it completely.
The auctioneer was Phil.
He wore an elegant tailcoat with a bow tie, holding a microphone in one hand and a small gavel against a bell.
The chime rang out crisp and clear.
“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Endbloom House Auction.” Phil struck the bell again. “Tonight is a bit different from our usual midnight auctions. Normally, we auction ten items. Tonight, there are 11.
“The final item is a special addition. I already announce it on Starnet this afternoon, so I won’t go into detail now. Let’s get started. The first item is an ancient ome-an authentic ancient Hesperia text from 3,000 years ago.”
As he spoke, a massive projection appeared above the stage,
Sylvara pulled out two cups of fruit tea from her spatial button, handed one to Blake, and twisted open her own. When she took a sip and looked at the projected ancient tome, she sprayed out half a mouthful of fruit
tea.
“What’s wrong?” Blake quickly handed over a handkerchief. “Come on, you’re an adult. How do you even choke on a drink?”
Sylvara took the handkerchief, wiped her mouth, and pinted at the projected book. “Is this the ancient
tome?”

Blake countered, “Isn’t it?”
Sylvara gripped her cup tighter, her expression indescribable. “Yes, it is.”

“This ancient tomb is called ‘Echoes Behind the Silk Screen’. Explorers recovered it after crossing five major star systems, passing through the Milky Way, and reaching ancient Earth. They risked radiation, mutant beasts, and zombies to retrieve it.
“The text isn’t in modern simplified Hesperia, but in ancient characters.”
Damn it!
Sylvara pressed a palm to her forehead, unable to watch the pages flipping on the screen. She’d just been thinking at noon that Echoes Behind the Silk Screen was all about every possible bedroom position. And now it was up for auction.
It wasn’t in simplified characters, but in the traditional form. It meant the version on display hadn’t even been translated into plain language. It was fully intact, refined, and of literary style.
“This book holds immense archaeological value. Expert predict that deciphering it will help us better understand the history and culture of ancient Hesperia from 3,000 years ago—or even earlier,” Phil continued smoothly. “Before the zombie apocalypse, ancient Hesperia already possessed over 5,000 years of history.
“Our records state that more than 3,000 years ago, our ancestors traveled through black holes and star systems, entered the Milky Way, and reached ancient Earth.
“They brought back the planet’s remaining survivors. Among them, Hesperians were the most numerous. They married our ancestors, had children, and raised future generations.
“If you trace your bloodlines, you’ll find Hesperia in your veins. Once this book is deciphered and translated, it might show the brilliance of Hesperia civilization and the origin of our blood.”
