“Our panda ancestors did not live on bamboo alone. We sometimes gathered other plants too, like awnless wheat, corn, horsetail, green broomsedge, porous mushrooms, wild angelica, notopterygium, even young fir bark. Dozens of different plants. We even scavenged arcasses or hunted small animals.
“Too bad that was more than three thousand years ago. do not even know what broomsedge, porous mushrooms, or notopterygium look like now. We do not eat meat anymore, only wheat, corn, and bamboo shoots.”
“That’s a shame.” Sylvara leaned so far across the table that her entire upper body was practically draped over it, eyes fixed on the adorable little kitty. “I was imagining you chewing on jerky and thought about making some to help with teething. But if you do not eat meat, that is fine. I have fruit. All for you. Lemons, sweet oranges, a few bunches of grapes, apples.”
Douglas stared as she kept pulling fruit out of her spatial button. His tiny eyes widened like marbles, and he stammered in disbelief. “Sylvie… Sylvie… all of this is for me? You are not saving the bamboo shoots or dried shoots to stew meat for your honey? Is it really okay to give me everything? Will your honey not get angry?”
Sylvara dumped the rest of her stash from the spatial button onto the table, her eyes filled with nothing but panda baby. “What does he have to be mad about? He annoys me every single day. Forget him. Baby… Dougie, eat. It is all for you. Listen, pandas need a balanced diet to stay healthy.”
“When your body is healthy, your fur shines like it has oil on it, even your ear fluff. I am telling you. Hey, stop pulling me. Let me finish talking to Dougie first.”
Who kept tugging at her sleeves? Could they not see she was busy talking to the panda baby? Nothing in the world mattered more than the panda baby.
“Kid, did you forget what we actually came here to do today?” Blake was breaking out in a cold sweat. He had walked over from his seat, and she had not noticed him for a full two minutes. She was sprinting toward self-destruction, and not even an entire fleet could drag her back.
“I did not forget, I did not.” Sylvara did not even turn around. She waved her hand impatiently. “Let me finish charming Dougie first, then we will talk.”
Douglas reached toward the fruit on the table, then caught the man’s gaze beside Sylvie. A chill ran straight down his spine. The words slipped out without thinking “Sylvie, is your honey mean to you?”
Sylvara was just about to climb onto the table.
She spotted the black, fuzzy ears twitching through Douglas’ white hair and completely lost all restraint.
She wanted to rub them. She wanted to pet them. She wanted to scritch them.
“He is the one I chose,” she said, eyes shining. “Listen, the first time I saw his photo was right after he came back from the battlefield. There was still blood smeared on his face.
“And the first time I saw him in person, long legs, lethal boks, walking block of ice. Every part of him fits my taste. He is exactly my type.”
“Oh, he is a soldier?” Douglas felt the pressure weighing on him ease. Even the man beside Sylvie did not seem quite as cold anymore. “Is he on the front lines for the Troya Empire?”
Sylvara nodded rapidly like a pecking chick. “Yes, yes. But there is one problem. He has not fallen for me yet. He wants a divorce.”

“Girl’ Blake’s cool voice cut in again. “Deal with the real business first, then you can chat, alright?”
If she kept talking, the disguise would completely fall apart.
That dog of a man’s expression would be beyond saving.

If he really found out, in a rage he would not carry her off to spank her. He would drag her straight to file for divorce.
If he truly divorced her and returned to the palace, it would not just be kneeling on durians. King Vaelor would kill him. Just thinking about it was terrifying.
“Alright, alright.” Sylvara’s eyes stayed glued to the panda baby. She repeated herself twice, then abruptly changed direction. “Dougie, that batch of seeds Earth sent to the auction, half of it sold, right? What about the other half?”
