“Do not be. No matter what, I will do all I can to stop bolt, wolves and vampires from taking you.”
0191
That was… a lot to ask of a single person and Beatrice knew it. There was no way a single vampire, no matter how strong, could hold up against 4 Master vampire, her brood, and four wolves. Not when he had to protect her at the same time. If she could just get out of the: he’d be able to fight with all he had and, maybe, just maybe, stand a chance.
The awkward vampire who’d lost his hand had retrieved the appendage and somehow put it back on and, voilà, all better. That was so unfair Beatrice didn’t even know how to react.

like he was some puppet who could pop it back on
“I will distract them,” Riaghaire whispered in a low voice, his lips brushing against Beatrice’s ear as he spoke. “Run the moreent you are able and do not
look back.”
He wanted her to just… abandon him to deal with everyone? By himself? Then again, what the hell was she going to do by staying, other than be a liability?
Beatrice gave a short nod in response, mind racing as she planned her escape route.
The first set of escalators was located to the left, near the inflatables; second set were to the right at the bottom of the first… She could do this. She could totally outrun both vampires and wolves. Allowing herself to think otherwise was not allowed. Positive reinforcement would be required for her to succeed.
Riaghaire’s idea of a distraction was… not what she’d expected. At the same time, she couldn’t help but feel like it was a very ‘him’ thing to do.
A vampire’s strength was incredible and Beatrice couldn’t help but be impressed when he picked up an entire shelving unit – plastic beach toys and all — and threw it at the wolves. Though he didn’t hit anyone with it, he did manage to scatter the four mutts, which was her cue to get the fuck out of there.
Of course, the vampires were still an issue but, when the awkward one appeared, blocking her path to the escalator, a stainless steel skewer imbedded itself
total of seven struck the vampire, making him more porcupine than human when he into his left eye. Another appeared in his shoulder, then his neck… finally collapsed; the final skewer having pierced his heart.
Guess you don’t need a stake to kill a vampire, Beatrice found herself thinking as she raced down the escalator, taking two steps at a time. Going up she’d let the machine do its thing, not wanting to exert herself, but going down? That was a different story. She wanted out of there and the faster it happened
the better.
The sound of giggles caused a chill to run down Beatrice’s spine as she made it to the second floor. It was coming from somewhere behind her but it echoed from all directions, adding to the creepy factor. It took all her willpower to not look over her shoulder; the last thing she wanted to see was the little girl vampire running towards her with an evil smile or something.
Maybe Beatrice had watched one too many horror movies.
Choosing to give her surroundings a brief glance as she swung around to the next escalator, Beatrice was startled to realize the place was deserted. Where had everyone gone? There were no customers to be seen. Had they… left? Had they been here at all? She knew it was too early for the store to be closed they were suppose to stay open until ten and it was only just after nine so where the hell did everyone go
“Teeheehee.”
Something cold wrapped around Beatrice’s leg as giggles continued to fill the air.
With great trepidation, the human glanced down to see the child vampire clinging to her leg. Heart racing, Beatrice watched as the little girl looked up at her with a smile that showed deadly fangs. Crimson eyes locked onto green ones and the world fell away.

BEATRICE
It wasn’t often that Beatrice called herself an idiot. Bringing backup – the wolves – after giving them an incentive to behave had seemed like a good idea. Except it seemed they didn’t actually care about being allowed back into Kaleidoscope. What they cared about was giving her back to Hendricks, Or, maybe it was about getting rid of Riaghaire once and for all?
No… that didn’t feel right.
Regardless, putting her trust in these wolves had been a mistake. She should have known better, given her experience with the Bluemoon pack. What the hell had she been thinking? Why hadn’t she taken Riaghaire being uncomfortable with The Plan more seriously?
What was wrong with her?
Then there was how she’d locked eyes with that creepy child vampire. It was only for an instant but that was more than long enougir for the mesmer to take
effect.
Beatrice now found herself in this odd state where nothing made sense. The pressure around her leg disappeared without warning, followed by an arm hooking itself behind her knees as another pressed against her back. Being picked up made her feel like she was floating. Heat radiated off the solid wall she found herself leaning against – while somehow still floating – which was nice but it brought her no comfort.
Something in her head was calling to her, saying they were almost there and would keep her safe.
There were people and things all around her, doing… stuff, and sounds were being made, but none of it made any sense. She couldn’t move, couldn’t speak, or do anything, really, other than exist.
