so as not to get lost. There were no straight paths, forcing him to squeeze and crawl over and trader things like only &
Finally, after an hour he was annoyed that he was now into more overtime, which meant more paperwork – Gregory realized the nose was 19 chose he was certain whatever it was had to be on the other side of the broken shelving unit to his left.
His tail twitched as he debated his options. There was no real airflow so far beneath the rubble, which meant he couldn’t scent who or what was there. If was one of the Master’s vampires or the Master herself he planned on leaving without looking back. Same if it was a wolf. But there was on way to know until he checked.
Sure, he could just call out and ask, but that would give away his position. A starved vampire would definitely break into his little tunnel to grab him. Then again, if a vampire was well enough to attack they would have long since escaped.
With a silent sigh, he began pawing at the debris around the shelving unit, slowly clearing it away as he worked. His claws were of little use and dulled in no time but having two sets of front legs gave him an edge when it came to digging.
Finally, an opening large enough for him to wiggle through was made
the other side, Gregory was startled to find a hand digging into the floor, the arm
it was attached to disappearing into a mountain of rubble. The tips of the fingers were raw, nails broken to the quick, and yet it still worked at the ground
as if it were on a mission.
That meant whatever it was attached to
undoubtedly a vampire was unable to do anything but dig away with this singular hand. Gregory let out a low purr, pleased that this meant he was safe from a surprise attack. “Hello there, my little five fingered friend,” he called out in a soft voice. “Who do you belong to, I wonder…”
The hand stopped moving almost instantly, fingers half buried in the floor.
Hmmm… that’s an interesting response. A starved vampire would try harder to reach a voice, knowing it came from something alive and full of blood. Why had they grown still?
“What is your name?” Gregory asked to no response. Interesting. If they were foe, he would know it the moment they spoke, so keeping silent was the obvious choice. But… what if they couldn’t speak?
There were plenty of reasons one couldn’t speak. Lack of oxygen came to mind but that wasn’t applicable to vampires… and there was air – Gregory needed so that couldn’t be the case. Were they so tightly packed in the debris they couldn’t expand their lunge? Or perhaps their jaw had it for his own survival been crushed and making noise was painful? Hmmm… too many options, not enough information.
As he was busy contemplating what to do, the hand had begun to move again. This time it made an odd motion with its fingers before pressed one into the debris it’d been digging through and began to… draw?
Pictionary. They were playing Pictionary. Life was great, thanks for asking. He was just playing Pictionary with an unknown vampire, buried under who knew how much rubble, and surrounded by tons of stuff that could come crashing down at any moment. What could possibly go wrong?
When the hand finished, there were a myriad of twisted lines that might have been writing – if it’d been done in the dark. By a random hand. It was illegible regardless of the angle. Go figure.
Sticking his head closer, Gregory sniffed the air and stilled. Now that was a scent he recognized. “Riaghaire,” he breathed, tail flicking. Had he actually found the vampire? Well damn. It’d only taken him two days. That had to be a record. He should get a bonus.
